Shelter FAQs

Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center is a public facility funded by tax dollars of Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. We are an open intake shelter. Our adoption program consists of dogs, cats and horses. All animals available for adoption are fully vetted, UTD on vaccinations, micro-chipped, spay/neutered, dewormed and heartworm tested.
Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center serves Lafayette Parish, the Acadiana area and Louisiana. We also accept out of state adoptions with valid identification. Qualified 501C-3 Rescues are welcomed.

Additional adoption info

Adoption viewing hours are from 8:00an-4:30 pm Monday-Friday and Saturdays 12pm-2pm. You must have a valid drivers license to apply. We do not do home checks. Adoption fees are $35 for dogs/pups, $25 cats/kittens and $150 for horses.

Effective Monday, August 17,2015, LAFAYETTE ANIMAL SHELTER & CARE CENTER will begin accepting VISA, MASTERCARD and DISCOVER credit cards. There will be a 2.5% surcharge/convenience fee added to your total. This fee is not greater than our cost of acceptance.
