Humane Society of Macomb's Adoption Process

1. Approve Application

Call us at 586-731-9210 and speak to one of our Adoption Assistants to receive a Pre-Adoption Form via email.

2. Meet the Pet

Schedule an appointment to come to the shelter and meet the pet.

3. Take the Pet Home

If everything goes well during the meet-n-greet process you will be able to take home your new pet the same day or arrange a 24hr hold.

Adoptions can be finalized same-day pending time and animal. Please call our shelter to learn about our adoption policies and/or schedule an adoption appointment.

Come Meet Humane Society of Macomb's Pets

We are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm for adoptions. Thursdays we offer later appointments and are open 10am-12pm and 1pm-6pm for adoptions ONLY. Adoptions range from 60 to 90 minutes to complete. The shelter is closed on Sundays and major holidays.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
