Rescue FAQs

Last Chance at Life is an all-breed rescue and adoption organization. We have a special fondness for Boxers, birds, and ANY pet in need of medical care. We take in animals from all over San Diego County. Our rescues come to us from local shelters and humane societies, owners who can no longer properly care for them, and through other rescue groups. Most often these animals are facing euthanasia because of medical or behavioral needs. Because of this, we are truly their “Last Chance at Life.”

Some of our pets are in foster homes, and others are cared for at our Adoption Center in Oceanside, CA.

All of our pets receive the very best in medical care from the doctors and staff at Mission Animal and Bird Hospital. The entire team is very committed to offering care to our pets in need and no short cuts are ever taken because these are rescue pets. Visit Mission Animal and Bird Hospital.

Additional adoption info

The first step in the adoption process is an application. We also ask for a letter of recommendation from a current or past veterinarian you have used for any other animals you have or have had in the past. This letter is basically the doctor recommending you to adopt based on your history of taking good medical care of your animals.

If you rent, we ask for proof that you are allowed to have a dog in your home. That's it paperwork-wise. Then we can work to find the dog that is the perfect fit for your family. If you do not have a vet that you have used in the recent past, no problem! We will schedule a home visit.

The adoption fee is a donation of your choice with a minimum of $250.

Your pet has been spayed/neutered and will come with a full medical history as best as we can give. When the dogs come to us they see a vet right away for an intake exam so we know as much as possible regarding their current health. They are given vaccines and we take blood, fecal, and urine to send to the lab to look for any other health issues that we can treat.
