Areas United Animal Friends Serves

We mainly serve the local Yavapai County area but we do adopt outside of this area if certain conditions can be met. For dog adoptions we require a home visit and distance may become a factor in whether or not the required home visit can be completed. We do have volunteer contacts in some areas, however, we may find it difficult to locate a volunteer to conduct the home visit in other areas. We will let you know if this becomes an obstacle to approval of your application.

We do not ship animals and we will not adopt to individuals without a personal meeting.

United Animal Friends's Adoption Process

When you are ready to adopt a new friend, we'll ask you to complete our friendly screening process, which ensures safe and successful adoptions!
  • If you are interested in adopting a dog, we will ask you to complete our Matchmaking Questionnaire to help us find the best match between you and your new pet.
  • If you already have pets, we will want to make sure they are spayed or neutered.
  • For renters, we'll check with your landlord to ensure that animals are permitted.
  • For dog adoptions, we'll visit your home to see the environment where the dog will live and answer your questions. This is a great opportunity for you to get valuable input on how to integrate your new pet into your home. If you already have pets, we can also help with the introduction to make sure everyone will be happy together.
  • If you are ready to adopt, we will have you complete the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee.
When you express interest in an adoptable pet, please be patient with us. We are staffed completely by volunteers who love animals and want only the best for them. We strive to respond to you in a timely fashion and to be honest, respectful and courteous in all our interactions. Please understand that our primary obligation is to the animals in our care. While we realize that our screening process may seem extensive, it is a process that has been developed through years of experience and we stand firmly behind it.

About United Animal Friends

United Animal Friends (UAF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit group founded in 2003 by a group of avid animal lovers. Since our grassroots beginning, we have continued to grow in size and strength, while continuing to maintain our founding principles of rescue, volunteerism and compassion.

Our mission is to provide rescue programs and services to animals and those who care for them.

Our primary goals are:

  • Saving the lives of adoptable dogs and cats.
  • Finding the best home for each animal in our care.
  • Reducing pet overpopulation through our spay/neuter programs.
  • Feeding hungry animals through our Community Pet Food Bank.
  • Relieving suffering and facilitating the compassionate treatment of animals.
UAF is an all-volunteer organization. To support our programs and services, we rely on donations from individuals and businesses; grants from foundations and government entities; and fundraising events.

Since 2003, we have found loving homes for more than 4,000 animals and spayed or neutered over 10,000. Our Community Pet Food Bank helps feed more than 700 hungry animals each month and ensures that all recipients are spayed or neutered. Our Trap/Neuter/Return/Manage Program improves the lives of feral and abandoned cats living outdoors. Our Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Certificate Program provides the means for low-income families to have their pets altered.

Come Meet United Animal Friends's Pets

United Animal Friends does not have a shelter. Most of our cats and dogs live in foster homes, however, the Petco store in Prescott generously allows us to keep some cats in Kitty City, inside the store.

We try to keep our main website current with all adoptable pets available at the time. We do not remove animals from our site until they have been adopted. Our website also shows "Courtesy Listing" animals, which are pets that are owned by private individuals who need to find new homes for them.

We hold adoption events at various locations each weekend, including Petco, Whiskers Barkery, and the Prescott Farmers Market at Yavapai College. Appointments at other times will be scheduled after the Matchmaking Questionnaire has been completed and reviewed.
