Areas Humane Society of West Louisiana serves

The Humane Society of West Louisiana was founded in August of 1998. We are a small group of volunteers that rescue abandoned, abused or neglected animals. We provide a safe environment for the animals and get them medical care. The animals are evaluated for their health and their temperment, and then put in foster homes or our adoption center until they find homes. Our goal is to end the cycle of pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; to educate the public about pet ownership responsibility; and to end animal abuse through education. Remember, there is no excuse for abuse!

The Humane Society of West Louisiana accepts donations of "weight circles" found on the bottom of 8 lbs or larger bags of Purina One brand dog food. Weight circles are redeemed through Purina for gift certificates to local stores to purchase needed supplies. Simple place them in an envelope marked "Humane Society" and drop them off at any local vet's office or mail them to: The Humane Society of West Louisiana, Attn: Weight Circles Enclosed, P.O. Box 1751, DeRidder, LA 70634. One weight circle by itself isn't worth much but many of them combined are valuable. It's a quick and easy way to help the Humane Society.

Our Wish List

The Humane Society can always use donations of the following items: puppy food, adult food, stainless steel food bowls, old blankets, fabric softener, laundry detergent, clay type cat litter, kitten food, baby blankets, old towels, bleach, leashes, paper towels, small collars, trash bags, computer paper, and CASH.

Additional adoption info

To adopt a kitten/cat or puppy/dog from the Humane Society of West Louisiana, you will fill out an application form for the pet you are interested in. We do interview you because we want to make sure that both pet and owner belong together so that we can have a successful adoption, which is a loving, permanent home for the pet & that the owner gets a healthy, loving animal right for his personality. Adoption fees include; the first office visit for a physical; deworming; the first set of shots, and to spay/neuter the animal. Help save a life and adopt a homeless pet! They make wonderful pets because they are so grateful & happy to finally have a home and belong to someone. Call (337) 462-3321 or email us at HumaneSocietyofWestLouisiana. If you email us, please include your name and phone numbers where you can be reached.
Mz Rita can also be found on the 1st and 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 a.m to 3 p.m at PetSmart in Alexandria adopting out animals. Come on by and see what she has to offer.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in DeRidder, LA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
