Shelter FAQs

Our dedicated Animal Control Officers, Jimmy Gilbert and Freddie Wright, are supported by a small, but active group, the Bonham Animal Shelter Volunteer Program who are always looking for more members. The Volunteer Program assists the Shelter in many ways, including vaccinating healthy adoptable animals at intake (NOT rabies), providing medication and limited medical care to sick and/or injured animals, and networking animals to the public as well as rescue organizations. Like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/bonhamanimalshelter
The City of Bonham is a rural community located in Fannin County on US 82 approximately halfway between Sherman and Paris, Texas. We are approximately 70 miles northeast of Dallas, Texas, and approximately 40 miles south of Durant, Oklahoma. While the shelter is owned and maintained by the City of Bonham, it serves all the towns and communities in Fannin Co as able.

Additional adoption info

Adoptions are currently $30 per animal, and fostering is $10. Microchipping is available at the Shelter for $15 per animal, and offered at a discount rate of $10 per animal if microchipped at time of adoption. The Bonham Animal Shelter accepts cash, check, and credit/debit cards.

A photo copy of the adopter's state issued ID will be made to attach to the adoption paperwork.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering an animal, please call COME IN PERSON as things change quickly. Emails are checked at the Shelter as time allows and therefore are not always read or responded to in a timely manner. Phone calls are answered and responded to as quickly as Animal Control Officers are able. Saturday-Tuesday only one ACO is on duty and may be away from the phone responding to calls for service or cleaning the Shelter.
