Rescue FAQs

Little Wanderers NYC is a grassroots 501c3 non-profit organization rescuing sick and injured cats from the five New York City boroughs.

Little Wanderers NYC runs solely with the help of volunteers. Our core volunteers help to maintain daily tasks and rescue needy cats off of the tough NYC streets. We focus on rescuing street cats with the help of our rescue team and placing them in foster homes until they find their FURever families.

Our mission is to rescue and TNR as many street cats in NYC as possible. We strive to never give up on a cat, regardless of their illnesses or their challenges. We believe that all cats deserve a place to call home and a family who will love them. LWNYC hopes to give this to all cats who come into our care in the most timely manner possible.

Space in New York City is really expensive and requires a staff to maintain the space, therefore we do not have a physical shelter location and rely on foster families to care for our cats. We hold adoption events where prospective adopters are able to meet cats and kittens who they are interested in adopting.

In 2025 ALONE, we helped more than 650 cats! Our efforts stretch from rescuing and homing stray cats to TNRing feral cats and colony management.

All of our adoptable cats come up to date on vaccinations, neutered/spayed, SNAP tested, de-flead, de-wormed, and microchipped. The cost of our adoption fees go towards vetting all of our rescued cats.

We work throughout all five boroughs of NYC, but primarily focus on the South Bronx and East Harlem. We are happy to help any cat in any borough if needed.

Although we primarily adopt out within the Tri-State Area, we are open to out of state adoptions. Please email with our adoptions team directly to further discuss.

Adoption steps

  4. Meet the Pet
    1. We require a virtual or in-person meet and greet before adoption.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. If you would like to proceed with adoption, you will receive the adoption contract in a link from Shelterluv.
  6. Pay Fee
    1. You must pay the fee and sign the contract before the pet goes home.
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. If the contract is signed and fee is paid, you may bring the cat home from in-person m&g, or coordinate pick-up/drop-off after virtual m&g.
