Additional adoption info
At Rita B. Huff Humane Society, our goal is for every pet to find a loving, caring, and lifelong home. To ensure the best match for both our animals and their future families, we require all potential adopters to complete an adoption application—available online or in person at our shelter. The application collects important information that helps us place each pet in the most suitable home possible. We are committed to responsible pet ownership and have the following requirements:
• Current Pets: Any pets you currently own must be spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and on heartworm and flea prevention. This demonstrates responsible pet care and helps ensure a healthy environment for all animals.
• Secure Outdoor Access: For dogs, we require a fenced yard at a home or a designated fenced area for those living in apartments. This allows for safe outdoor activity, playtime, and potty breaks.
• Indoor Living for Cats: We only adopt cats to indoor homes. Outdoor life significantly shortens a cat’s lifespan—by as much as 10 years—and exposes them to dangers like traffic, loose dogs, and wildlife.
• Barn Cat Program: Occasionally, we have feral cats that are not suitable as house pets. These cats are available for barn homes, but they must still be provided with daily food, fresh water, shelter, and annual vaccinations.
Our ultimate priority is the well-being of every animal in our care. Thank you for helping us provide them with the safe, loving homes they deserve.
