Cavalier Rescue of Florida's adoption process

Additional adoption info

If you're interested in a specific Cavalier, or in being placed on our waiting list so that we can contact you when new dogs become available, you will first need to complete both a Preliminary Rescue Adoption Application and Reference (both personal and veterinarian) form. You can request these forms from Trisha Bowley at Trisha.Bowley@CavRescueFl.com.

When we match you with a dog to adopt, we’ll first check your references. If that goes well, someone will come to your home to meet with you and everyone else living there. We will also check your home, garage, and yard to make sure you can provide a safe environment for a Cavalier. When a dog comes in, first priority goes to those on our waiting list, so filling out all the paperwork will get you one step closer to adopting one of our Cavaliers. We never know when we will get one in, but in 2015 over 73 Cavaliers were adopted through our organization. If you have already applied, and we post a new dog(s) that you are interested in, please send an e-mail of interest for that Cavalier to Trisha.Bowley@CavRescueFl.com.

Our adoption fees are based on the health and the age of a rescued Cavalier as well as medical costs incurred. Our rescue is operated 100% by volunteers; all donations go towards helping the Cavaliers in our rescue program. The adoption fee needs to be paid when you pick up your rescue Cavalier.

The lowest cost of owning a pet is typically their adoption fee. Please consider the long term costs associated with owning a pet (food, ID tags, collars, leashes, veterinary care, annual vaccines, rabies vaccines, emergency medical costs, professional dog trainers for behavioral issues, etc.) When you adopt a rescue dog, you are agreeing to care for the pet's well-being for the duration of his or her life.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
