Rescue FAQs

Second Chance Animal Rescue is a nonprofit
501(c)(3), all-volunteer organization incorporated in 1994 that is dedicated to rescuing, caring for and adopting out homeless dogs and cats into loving and responsible homes. We educate the public on respect for all animal life, including the importance of spaying and neutering in order to reduce the number of animals euthanized.
Serving the Twin Cities metro area for most of the adoptions. Unaltered puppies must be adopted within a 40 mile radius to make compliance with the contract agreement to have them spayed/neutered easier for the adopter (surgery price included in adoption fee only at specified vet in St. Paul). We do not ship animals.

Adoption steps

  1. Interview
  2. Meet the Pet
  3. Approve Application

Additional adoption info

Initial contact is made by leaving a message on the Second Chance's answering machine - expect a return call within 24 hours. Potential adopters will be screened before a referral is made to the foster home where the animal is currently housed. They can expect to fill out a written application, sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee when meeting the animals. Adopters must be at least 20 years old. If renting, the landlord's consent in writing is required or a copy of the lease brought with adopter at time of adoption. Must have familiarity with local animal ordinances so you know how many cats/dogs you are permitted - this will vary from city to city. Potential adopters must understand that their application can be denied.
