Rescue FAQs

Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Inc., is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, all volunteer NYS corporation which has been operating on Long Island for 40 years. We are working to create a better welfare system for all the animals in our communities. Over the years, we created, and continue to create, a number of valuable programs which serve to promote our mission to create respect for all animals, to educate individuals about animals, to help people keep their animals, and to provide assistance with the control of the animal population on Long Island. PAWS has many programs which are helpful in achieving our goals. PAWS is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting respect for all living things,and reducing the increasing animal population. We are based on Long Island.

All of our potential families fill out an adoption application. From there, we perform reference checks and a home visit.
