Areas Santa Maria Valley Humane Society Serves

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society has sterilized more than 30,000 animals in our low cost spay and neuter clinic since 1998. Our Wellness Clinic is offered Wednesday and Saturday from 2 pm- 5 pm and is performed by fully licensed and experienced veterinarians. At the time of a spay/neuter procedure, low cost vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping can also be administered for an additional fee. SMVHS operates an adoption program for cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.

Families or individuals who would like to add a pet to their household are encourage to visit our shelter to see if a cat or dog staying with us will be a good match for their lifestyle and home. We have adoption counselors who help to "matchmake" animals and adopters. Adopters can take their new cat or dog home with them that same day after completing an adoption counseling session with one of our adoption counselors.

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society is a vibrant and exciting organization that exists to rescue, shelter, heal, place, and train dogs and cats while engaging the Central California Coastal community to end animal homelessness. Since 1984, the caring staff and volunteers of the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society have placed 14,985 homeless dogs and cats into new and loving homes and our highly-skilled veterinarians have helped and healed an additional 34,945 dogs and cats.

In 2013 the completion of the state-of-the-art Edwin & Jeanne Woods Animal Care Complex, located at 1687 West Stowell Road, Santa Maria, California 93458, became a reality. Providing shelter for animals in crisis, rescue efforts, expert veterinary care and a pet food pantry for dogs and cats in need helps thousands of animals each year. Santa Maria Valley Humane Society relies entirely on support from the communities that we serve.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
