Forney Animal Shelter's adoption process

Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

Meet the Pet

If you have other dogs, you may bring them for a meet and greet.

3.

Sign Adoption Contract

If you find a pet you want to adopt, bring your valid state driver's license.

4.

Pay Fee

Pet adoption fees are $75.

5.

Take the Pet Home

Spay/ Neuter appointment will be set if you live in the city of Forney.

Additional adoption info

Adoptions are $75. This fee covers spay or neuter surgery and rabies vaccination. Photo i.d. and cash, check, or credit card. Puppies can go home and will be scheduled for sterilization at approximately 6 months old. Adult dogs must stay at the shelter and the adopter can pick them up the day of the surgery.

About Forney Animal Shelter

The Forney Animal Shelter is a beautiful facility. We pick up stray animals within the city limits of Forney and take owner surrenders when space permits. Stray animals that have microchips are held for 7 days. Animals without i.d. are held for 3 days. If the animals are not reunited with owners within the holding period, they can be adopted. We have both dogs and cats available at the shelter.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
