Life-Saving Stories From Zoetis Grant Recipients

Zoetis and Adopt a Pet teamed up to grant 40 animal welfare organizations across the US with over $2 Million in petcare products over the past year. The shelters and rescues received flea, tick, and heartworm disease prevention for cats and dogs, along with core vaccines and antibiotics to support healthy shelter pets waiting for their forever homes. You can learn more and see the full list of winning organizations here.

In recognition of these organizations going above and beyond for the pets in their communities, we’re spotlighting some of their heartwarming transformation stories. Read on to see the important work powered by our partner Zoetis.

Arise Animal Rescue/ Indigo and Ocean after parvo care

Puppy recovery stories from Arise Animal Rescue

“Parvo…not a word anyone wants to say, but unfortunately in rescue, it’s a word often said. Puppies are brought in from shelters with parvo and surrendered because the pet parent can’t afford the treatment or surrendered without knowing the pups had parvo. Sally’s litter was born in a foster home in January 2023. All six puppies were healthy, playful, and doing great. But the morning of their first adoption event, one of the puppies wasn’t doing so great. The pup was slower than the others and had no interest in food or water. The litter was taken to the vet and tested — they were positive for canine parvovirus.

Being so young and small, the other puppies quickly began to show symptoms. In just one afternoon, all of them were in a bad situation. The worst ones were hooked up to fluids. All of them were given a Cerenia injection and antibiotics. The Cerenia injection was given to the pups every 24 hours until they started eating and drinking. It controlled their nausea and gave them the will to fight and live. These injections are what saved their lives. Days later, they began eating and drinking and getting back to normal puppy play. Three weeks later, after this horrific nightmare, all but one of the puppies were adopted and went to their forever homes where they are living a great life.”

League for Animal Welfare/ Billy Bob

Billy Bob’s story from the League for Animal Welfare

“Billy Bob was at the League for two years before he was finally adopted in March 2024. As an anxious, sturdy brown Pittie mix, it was difficult for Billy Bob to meet new people and make a good impression. He was too terrified. His fear was no surprise. He came to the League after being seized from a rescue that was cited for extreme neglect. When Billy Bob’s story went viral in March (he made Newsweek and the Kelly and Mark show!), he finally found his home. He is now thriving with a rescued black lab sister and a very patient human dad. While Billy was with us, he was treated for heartworm and, as with all of our adopted dogs, sent home with heartworm prevention to ensure he would be protected until he was established at a vet.”

Ru4Me Pet Rescue/ Lois before and after receiving care

Lois’ story from Ru4Me Pet Rescue

“This kitty was found roaming in a community by a visitor. She was completely infested with mange and was painful to even look at. We were contacted and took Lois into our foster program, where she was treated with Revolution Plus. She was given three doses two weeks apart. Lois was also treated with Clavamox for a skin infection caused by mites. Thank you, Zoetis!”
