Adopt a Pet and PetSmart Charities teamed up to launch Rehome at PetSmart in 2024. After testing the pilot program at 34 initial stores, we’re expanding to 70 locations. Here’s everything you need to know.

About The Program
Finding a safe, public place to meet up can be challenging for those rehoming their pet or interested in adopting from a private individual. To make this part of the adoption process easier — and safer — the Rehome at PetSmart program gives pet parents the option to host meet-and-greets in select stores. With Rehome at PetSmart, pet parents can meet in a neutral space, where PetSmart associates will set them up with the adopter in a safe, quiet part of the store.
Once the rehoming process is complete, the new adopter will get access to pet parenting tips and a PetSmart adoption kit with over $350 in savings on pet supplies (including a free bag of food, training sessions, and grooming discounts) to set them up for success.
How It Works
The rehoming pet parent will follow all typical Rehome instructions to list their pet for adoption on Adopt a Pet. Then, once an eligible adopter fills out an application for the pet, Adopt a Pet will email the rehoming pet parent with instructions on how to schedule their meet-and-greet at PetSmart.
