My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Welcome to Indie, our svelte super-model at the women's prison! Indie is about a year old and a slender 30-35 lbs. full grown. She's got the most gorgeous eyes, is very agile, playful with toys (will fetch and tug). Disemboweling squeaky toys is her favorite game.

Indie warmed up nicely to all 10 handlers, and is very sweet with folks she knows. With strangers, she's shy at first, and needs a little time to warm up. She likes just being around other dogs (though she's yet to play much with one) - in fact, being near another friendly dog gives her confidence when she's stressed by the prison environment.

The first leg of her trip to the prison was a bit rough. But on her second leg of transport, she was a perfect angel, just resting quietly in the car. She handled her first bath with us like a lady and accepts teeth brushing.

Indie is very gentle with people, said by the shelter to be good with older/polite kids, and does not guard food from people. She may, however, guard food from other (female) dogs sometimes. She absolutely loves her crate and has been accident-free in prison since day 1.

This beauty needs a home with a securely fenced yard, and it should probably be over 4' tall.

Indie is sensitive to loud noises, and is a confirmed counter-surfer, stealing objects and then squirreling them away in her crate! Though she'll no doubt learn to respect boundaries in the presence of her handlers, her adopter needs to keep things out of her reach when she's unsupervised, as this clever girl will certainly know when it's 'safe' to snatch goodies. ;-)

Indie is receiving obedience training at a Virginia correctional center. To learn more about the Pen Pals program, please visit our website at www.fetchacure.com.
