My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Chet. He has just came in on 2/17. I know very little about him so I will tell you what I do know. He seems like the sweetest of fellows. He wants to learn and loves to be loved on. He was hanging around a hunt club for about 4 weeks when some real caring folks brought him to me tonight. He is about 4 years old and seems to be healthy. We are setting up a vet appointment this week to have him checked out, neutered and check for heartworm disease. We just hope that he is HW negative as we are in a financial crunch right now...however be assured that if he is positive we will be treating him and giving him the very best care!! He likes cats and seems a very calm guy. Just wants to be loved on. He doesn't know any obedience commands but was certainly willing to learn. I spent a little time showing him how to sit and only after a few tries he was getting it! We don't know about his house manners yet but will know soon enough. Keep checking the web site to see how this lovly boy is doing. Just as soon as he has been health checked and we are assured that all is well, he will be ready for his new "forever" home. Feel free to call me if you have any questions...just remember right now I know little more than this. mary...

UPDATE:

We just got a call from the vet's office..so we have good news and not so good news on Chet.

First Chet is on the young side of my guess per my vet...probably only about 3 years old.
Also the bad news is that he is heartworm positive so will have to be treated to eliminate the heartworms. No problem for him as we will gladly treat this sweetie. We are in a major financial scrunch so financially this is going to be difficult...may be you folks will consider sending a few dollars to help us get him on the road to recovery even faster!! He is scheduled for his neuter, shots and the treatment as I write. This boy is a big boy for those who like a substantial dog...Chet weights a whopping 79 pounds...yet for his bone and body size he is still on the lean side.

The GREAT news is that all the gals at my vet have just fallen in love with him. I have heard nothing but what a real sweetheart he is. They have said nothing but wonderful things about his temperament.

We will be posting updates about him as we go a long.

Thanks for considering adopting our great guys! They are all in need of loving "forever homes".

Also we are in desperate straights for foster homes in the Columbia area..please CALL me if you are interested in giving a home for one of the rescued Golden Retrievers until a permanent home is found. Right now Chet will have to come here if I can't get someone to step up to help. I am full to the brim here and he won't get as much attention as he deserves as he would in a home with fewer dogs to care for.

The said fact is that we are a very small but dedicated group. We are filled to the brim right now and don't even know where we will put another dog if one comes in...sigh...I really abhor boarding dogs and will only do so if push comes to shove because that is not a good way to rehab a dog that needs us. It is only good for short term as a means of "parking" a dog until we have a home to place and retrain them. I don't think anyone would like to be stuck in a kennel without much attention. These guys REALLY need a home situation to bridge the way into a "forever" home. If you live in the Columbia area, have a fenced in yard and have a bit of a space in your heart...and a lot of patience won't you please help? NOT for me but for the love of the breed and these most deserving dogs? Please CALL if you can offer a temporary, loving home!

Thanks,
