Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Sophia! She is being fostered by PAAW, but came to the Hazel Park Shelter, on June 2, 2012. We thought she was a nursing mother because she came with a little boy kitten. But when we went to have them spayed/neutered, we found out that she had already been spayed. That, unfortunately, is all that we know about her history.
Sophia is an independent cat who gets along with her foster mom’s cats as well as other fosters cats/kittens that live there. That may not seem like much, but it took her a long time to get that comfortable. When first moving in, she lived in a two-story crate until she got acclimated to her new home. When she was given the run of the house, she camped out in a box of cotton rags on top of the cat food bin, next to the feeding station set up on a bakers rack. And that was her spot for almost a year. But, it gave her the opportunity to get used to the other cats in the house who, naturally, needed to eat at that feeding station on the bakers rack. One day her foster mom found her snuggled on the couch. Then she started finding Sophia on her own bed, and then in cat trees in various rooms of the house. Sophia visits every room now.
Sophia had a health issue the summer of 2013. She was found to have chronic gingivitis. After several rounds of antibiotics that worked only temporarily, most of her teeth were removed; she has her fangs and the teeth in front of her mouth, but none in the back. However, she has no problem eating dry food.
Sophia likes to be petted very gently and will let you know when she’s had enough. Her foster mom will talk to her softly when petting her. She is used to her foster mom’s dogs, but they pretty much ignore her, anyway. She has beautiful long hair and is a dilute calico. She is very sweet but not very cuddly. However, it’s very possible that if she did not have to compete with other cats, she might just change.
Please consider making her part of your loving home!
