My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi my name is Sampson. I was originally adopted out as a puppy in 2010. My family could no longer keep me, and I came back to Illinois Animal Rescue. When the folks at IAR saw me again, I looked a little different--since I went from a cuddly pup to a cuddly 120+ pound dog. I'm a big, energetic boy. I do have some features that make IAR think I'm a Leonberger; maybe mixed with golden retriever--but since no one knew my parents, we'll never know for certain.

Sampson is currently finishing up training to work out a few issues. As he is a bigger dog, any issue is magnified due to size and strength. When we first got Sampson, he would rear up and swing his paws if he did not want to do something. This behavior has been greatly reduced, but he will require a firm owner to keep up with the training. (We will have our trainer consult with any adopter)

Sampson is being trained at a facility that also does doggie day care and he does great with other dogs. We know from his previous home that he loves children. As far as we know, he has not been tested with cats.

Sampson walks fairly well on a leash, and he knows basic commands like sit, down, paw, other paw and speak.

All dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, current on their vaccinations, heartworm tested if age appropriate; treated for fleas/ticks and urgently awaiting adoption!
The dogs and cats are so very appreciative of your support. Together we can save these forsaken loving 'innocents' who are condemned to death.
