My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Star is one of five neglected horses from a property in Calhan. His owner could no longer afford to care for them and he was quite thin when he came to the rescue. Our equine dentist, Dr. Sandi Grover, assessed his age at 15-18 years old. He looks to have some Tennessee Walker bloodlines - you tell us. He stands at about 15.1H. It is apparent that he has had some training in the past that perhaps wasn't very respectful; he has begun to disengage his hindquarters on cue and face up. He will also back with little pressure on his nose and lower his head on cue. We will continue to play with him in an easy manner and will start in earnest in a few months when weight gain has been established.

Update: Star completed a groundwork course with our trainer, Anna Blake (www.annablaketraining.com). He did well, was handled by many of her students, and had an uneventful hoof trim. He trailer loads very nicely, is easy to catch out at pasture, leads up well, and likes living with llamas and goats. It is very possible that he would do well as the only horse in a small herd of other farm animals, although he likes his gelding buddies as well. He wants to move other geldings around when mares are present, so his ideal home is with geldings. He tacks up easily and seeks out human attention. He is also going under saddle and will need that more experienced rider to continue with his training.
