My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Catie (pronounced Katie). Catie is a super sweet and quick adjusting kitty. She is about five years old and had several litters before being trapped and spayed. She is not feral, but was a stray who was well socialized early on. She came here from an out-of-area rescue to be placed for adoption. Her daughter Amber is already in foster and we are looking at reuniting them possibly.
Like Amber, Catie is also FIV+ and like Amber, can have a long, healthy happy life. As with any FIV+ cat we have adopted, she needs to be placed in a quiet, low stress home with an abundance of love and affection... and affection is something she absolutely adores!

The first night she was in foster, she made herself at home in the foster room where she is. She’s very quick to adapt to new surroundings! Catie loves to head butt and rub your face, and it has to be your face. She must be noticed and you must know that she is right there and is the only thing in the universe that exists, besides you.

Catie has had a hard time in life. She was shot up with BB's and one is still lodged in her tail, and another is in her shoulder. The one in the tail will be surgically removed as it is creating a "break" in the tendons of the tail and affecting it's natural movement. There may also some nerve involvement which can be leading to sensitive bowels. She has had some issues with diarrhea but is on a bland diet and this has resolved that.

She also has a tooth that will need to be extracted due to damage. We will have both the BBs removed and tooth extracted at the same time. She can be adopted prior with our promise to pay for the operation but we prefer for her to have this completed prior to adoption. We don't want to pass up an opportunity for a good home so we will assess the timing of placing her on a case by case basis.

Since Amber is her daughter and also FIV+, we are hoping to work toward a reunion and paired adoption. She doesn't do well with most other cats but she was living with Amber as an adult and did fine. Amber adjusts to other cats no problem. Both have similar personalities. Like mother like daughter? Catie loves to play, purrs very loudly and just loves life and people. She loves companionship very much. She would not be able to be placed in a home with dogs though.

We are working with local vets to try to establish a program for our adopters so that they can receive lifetime discounts on our FIV+ cats to decrease financial fears. However, depending on their biology and low stress, good nutrition and lots of love, they can live long healthy lives, and often due. We have seen two FIV+ cats become sick with cancer, not other illnesses that cats can get with decreased immunity. Any cat can become sick with viral and bacterial infections though, not just FIV+ cats.

Would you like to have a wonderful early Mother's Day gift and give her, and Amber, a great gift of a loving, happy forever home? She is a wonderful, loving and fun kitty!
