My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harrison is the sweetest old guy! For being 13 years young, he is in great shape and over-all very healthy. Except for his blindness. Even with that being said, he does not let that hinder his exploring the back yard and house. He goes slow and "feels" with his feet. He high steps around feeling for his surroundings. He has bumped his head and ran into things but hes only been here a short time. He will learn the lay of the land. I have started training him with a dog training tool called a "clicker". He has responded to it very very good! Within 10 minutes he knew what to do and follow the sound. He walked all the way across the backyard with few verbal cues and mostly clicks.

Harrison will need eye ointment for his eye for the rest of his life but he is very accepting of this procedure and it only takes 5 seconds to preform.

He does not vocalize much but will if he knows you left him and didn’t "tell" him. He likes to know where things or people are at. So when I leave the room, I always touch him and talk to him. Hes fine with that. If I just leave the room, he barks a couple times until you tell him where you are at and then he stops. I think he feels lost not knowing. I leave the dog beds all over the floor in different spots so he can find them easily and sleep. Otherwise he will sleep on the bare floor and I think that’s to cool for him.

He likes to be in bed with you for a bit before he goes to his bed to sleep for the night. I found that if I let him lay with me in bed for about 10/15 minutes, he settles down and relaxes. When Im ready to sleep, I pick him up and carry him to his pillow and lay him down. I pet him a bit and talk to him and then cover him up with a blanket. That way, he doesn’t move much during the night. If I don’t do this, he wanders the room and "barks" for me. It sounds like a lot of work, but it really only takes a little bit. He deserves the time spent, hes earned it.

He's a total lap dog and would be great with a senior or respectful children. He has started to put him paws on my lap when Im at the computer chair trying to get my attention. That’s shows trust as he has to jump up and hes trusting me to "be there". He has started to jump up in the chairs and on the couch. He can also jump down unassisted. He learns very fast and trusts quickly. For being a 13 year old blind dog, he is great and is fun to be around. He gets along with the dogs, no aggression at all on food or toys.

He'll share his love with everyone!
