My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

03/24/2015 URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED FOR SWEET MURDOCH

We received an email regarding an urgent plea to save a dog in a rural Southern Shelter. We were told that this Shelter receives very little help and the only reason this dog was still alive was because he was so sweet. He had a skin condition that was reported to be most likely mange. Animal Control was doing everything they could to spare his life. We were hoping that a Rescue organization closer to the Shelter would come forward to help but that was not the case.

A small group of volunteers near this Shelter do an amazing job networking with Rescues to take these needy animals. They have set up a program that facilitates medical care and temporary boarding. How could we refuse to help knowing he would die? We agreed to take this boy into our Rescue program and named him Murdoch.

The first order of business after we committed to Murdoch was to get him to a veterinarian since no medical care is given at this Shelter. The doctor’s exam and skin scraping confirmed that he had non-contagious demodectic mange. Luckily he was heartworm negative, but he did have intestinal parasites. He was prescribed antibiotics, and given a vitamin supplement, medicated shampoo, Mitaban dip to kill the mites and a dewormer. He needed all of his inoculations and also had to be neutered.

The doctor estimated Murdoch’s age at 9 months. The Shelter labeled him a Boxer mix because he has a docked tail but we are thinking he may be more of a Mastiff. He weighed 56 pounds at his vet appointment. It is hard to determine if he is more Boxer or Mastiff from photos so we will have to reserve further opinion about his breed until we meet him.

We currently have Murdoch boarded in a kennel not far from the Shelter. We are very anxious to have him transported to our area but we do not have an available foster home.

We DESPERATELY need your help.

Please consider fostering this deserving young man or at very least donating to offset the cost of his care. As always, we are grateful and thank you for your support.
