My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a 4-legged best friend. Hootie is a deaf, neutered, micro-chipped, American Bulldog approx. 15 months old and up-to-date on his vaccines. This tail wagging silly, happy boy loves life itself even if he can't hear the birds chirping. A deaf dog does not mean difficult to handle or communicate with. You just communicate with your eyes and hands. Hootie has been taught a few hand signals. Additionally, we use a vibration/stimulation training collar to aide with communication. We still talk to him as if he can hear us, why not! He loves people and will thrive with a gentle, affectionate, confident person. His chosen adopter will need to follow through with his routines and training that we have spent many hours working with him on, to keep him balanced, happy and structured. Hootie cannot hear cars or loud noises so he will rely on you to make sure he is safe and out of harms way. He is crate trained and potty trained. He would love to have another canine family member, ideally a spayed female in the same age range. Cats are not recommended, nor are young children.

His foster parents have devoted a lot of time to his well-being and we hope there is a special person or couple with a loving and stable home environment who will love him just as much. Hootie can easily be a best friend to a retiree or a teacher who has the summer off. Human companionship and a possible canine pal to chum with is his dream home. Patience and unconditional love are a must!
