My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pax is a handsome and gentle Crested Gecko (Rhacodactylus ciliatus) looking for a loving guardian.

Little Pax is easily handled and incredibly fun to watch.

Crested Geckos are considered to be starter pets for those interested in reptiles. But, as with any new pet, there is a lot to learn about their care.

I have never rescued a Crested Gecko before so I've been doing a bit of reading so that I set up his habitat properly and fed him appropriately. Let me share a little of the information I've gathered, and I look forward to hearing more from reptile enthusiasts.

They need the proper temperature and humidity in their aquarium. So, in his 20 gallon aquarium, I installed a thermometer to measure the temperature, and a hygrometer to measure the humidity.

Crested Geckos are nocturnal omnivores who feed on insects and fruit in the evening. Their little feet feel like little rubber suction cups and they can easily climb the side of a glass aquarium, although they love to hop from limp to limb of the plastic plants I've set up.

They can eat either Crested Gecko powdered food which you regenerate with water into a slurry, or live insects like crickets along with fruit baby foods. One of the weirdly cool things they do since they don’t have eyelids is licking their eyes with their tongue. They are fascinating to watch.

Pax has what is sometimes referred to as a frog butt. He apparently lost his tail, a defense mechanism, and they do not grow back in Crested Geckos. But, he gets around just fine.

To meet and possibly adopt Pax, please contact Sheri at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891. His adoption fee of $35 benefits rescued pets. His 20 gallon aquarium with mesh top, thermometer and hygrometer, cork hideaways, plants, food, vitamins and dishes, and everything else you will need to care for this little fellow is available for $100.
