My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oscar is a Special adoption: Please read bio in full.

This 3 year old boy, who came in as a stray, is available for foster or adoption. Oscar is a total love! He is great with people and wiggles uncontrollably when he sees his friends. He loves being active and would be a great companion for an active, outdoorsy person or people; he'd make a heck of a good jogging partner! He can't get enough of playing fetch, and does really well just out walking on the leash. As much as he loves playing and having fun, Oscar is really good at chilling out, too. He has frequent sleepovers in our trainer's office, and we've learned that he loves his crate (it's his man cave) and he's easily house trained. He's a very affectionate guy, and is happiest when he's spending time just being with and around his people. Oscar is super smart and does well with training. He's got such a nice temperament that he's in our Golden Outreach program, where he's training to ultimately visit people in nursing homes (he knows tons of training cues). Oscar can be a little shy in new situations and around new people, so we think he'd be happiest in a calmer, adult home. He does not like other dogs or cats, so he'd also like to be your one and only pet. Oscar is a great dog who would really like to get out of the shelter, as he finds it a very stressful place. We are looking for a foster home or a forever home for him. If you'd like more information on Oscar or more details on fostering, please e-mail trainer@spca914.org or call the shelter at (914) 941-2896. Check out Oscar's video on this page to see how smart (and cute!) he is! Click the video icon underneath his photo.

The SPCA of Westchester works hard to find permanent homes for our adoptable dogs. Families interested in dogs listed as “Special Adoptions” will work with our trainer to insure that the adoption is the correct placement for that dog. During this time, the dog’s bio will still appear on PetFinder, marked “Adoption Pending”. If another family is interested in that dog, they can fill out an adoption application and leave it for the trainer. In the event that the adoption does not work out, the next application received will be considered as the next potential candidate. The trainer will only work with one family at a time that she deems is a valid candidate for that adoption. Thank you for your understanding.

Please fill out an application if you'd like to jumpstart the adoption process. No appointment is necessary to come in and meet/adopt an animal unless noted differently above. Otherwise, you may come in anytime, no appointment needed to meet/adopt one of our animals! You may also fill out an application when you get here. Please note, we do NOT hold animals, nor do we accept deposits in advance. Even if you have discussed coming in to meet an animal or have an approved application with us, this does not necessarily guarantee you will get that particular puppy or dog as you must always meet the animal(s) you are interested in before being fully approved to adopt. Also note, even if approved to adopt from us, if you have a dog at home they MUST meet the dog(s) you are interested in adopting from here to ensure they get along before you can officially adopt. All Dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (age appropriate) and come with a free 7 day Vet check from a participating Vet! Our hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday's 1pm-4pm. High Kill Shelter/Southern Rescues, both Puppies and Adults are $325, All Puppies are $325 and Local Stray Adults over 1 year of age are $175. Seniors and Lonely Hearts Club members are $65.
