My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Misha is what is loosely termed a 'rez' dog...that is to say, she is from the reservation in chinle, AZ. Rez dogs live by their wits, have their own society, and roam the reservation at will. Misha is a young girl, and when we found her starving in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, she had obviously had a littler but was no longer nursing. There were no puppies with her, and she was skin and bones...quite literally. She was also at the bottom of the hierarchy of dogs, so she did not get much food. We smuggled Misha into our hotel room the night before we left for home, and about 2 hours after her bath and a good dinner, Misha went to the door and waited. We were quite surprised! She knew, somehow, that she should go outside to potty! This has been the case ever since. Misha uses the dog door, and has NEVER had an accident. We have dachshunds and chihuahuas at home...I am primarily a dachshund rescuer for Denver Dachshund Rescue and Transport....and dachshunds can be downright surly to a bigger dog to their own detriment. Misha has always backed off whenever the dachshunds are rude to her. We fostered a lab at the same time as we brought Misha home, and the lab girl was dominant...and Misha and she played like old pals...even when Gemma, the lab, got rough. Misha misses Gemma now...she loves to play and will often race in and out the dog door at TOP speed in an imaginary game of chase. She loves to hoard and will steal socks and the occasional slipper. She has never chewed on furniture or shoes. She is very stealthy as well, and she reminds of a breed called a Lurcher...she once took an entire plastic container of strawberries off the counter and outside thru the dog door right past me and proceeded to eat many of them...I never noticed her doing that! She loves fruit and vegetables as well. She has learned to walk on a leash, and in truth, she understood what we were doing and listened very well the first time we went out for a walk. She listens but has that tiny bit of Rottie rebellion in her. She will wait to eat her food until you tell her it's ok, and she learned to do that. For a dog who is food insecure due to her starvation days, that is quite an accomplishment! She crates like a pro, makes no noise and will not even whine to be let out. She will sleep on a blanket on the floor or at the foot of the bed...wherever you show her she can lay down, she will lay down. Misha needs someone who will play with her...preferably another dog and/or a human. She is a wonderful companion, she self-entertains (she is not needy), and she is independent but loves to interact as well. She is good with kids but due to her size (55lbs and not getting much bigger than that) I would not adopt her out to a family with tiny kids as she likes to run around and play and could knock a young child down inadvertently. Misha is extremely gentle when she takes food from your hand, and she likes to 'gum' you gently during play and 'bite your bugs.' She is a wonderful girl, and we are so thankful she was put in our path. Now it is her turn to be placed with a family she can call her own. She is fewer than 2 years old, and her adoption fee is 200. Please feel free to contact me regarding Misha's adoption into your family!
