Here's what the humans have to say about me:
A few months ago we found out about a very pregnant dog on the streets of Houston. So pregnant that she was already lactating. Unfortunately, we see see this all the time. Determined to help her we started sharing her photo. We first sent it to our friend and foster, Cristel, and she was instantly connected. Next we were off to the races to find a transport for her to get to CO quickly! Our options were limited and we were certain that she would give birth before the soonest one. I let Cristel know that we didn't think we could get her and she immediately sprung into action saying "I'll just drive and get her!" Denver to Houston is not a quick trip! We were amazed by her dedication and selflessness! We let Kara, in Houston, know and she promptly went to where she saw Sophie to pick her up! Kara called to let me know that Sophie was no longer alone. She felt bad separating them but didn't have another open foster home for the new guy. I begged her over phone as I heard him whimper, saying that Cristel would let him ride with Sophie and all would be well. Next thing we knew he jumped in the car, protecting Sophie!
It was a long ride for Cristel, Sophie and Indie but they made it back to Denver safe and sound WITHOUT a labor! :) The next day Sophie started going into labor and gave birth to 13 beautiful, healthy puppies. Stella is one of those lucky pups who was born into a life of love off the streets!! We couldn't be more grateful to Indie for protecting her on the streets, Kara for letting us know she was in need and for taking her in and Cristel for picking Sophie up and for caring for the family of 14 now!
These pups are truly mutts with one thing in common, a ridge! We think Sophie is a lab/cattle dog and we think there are many dads to this litter (one being a ridgeback).
This is what Cristel has to say about Miss Stella, "One of three shar pei-like puppies, Stella is punishingly cute, and her easy going personality and love of cuddletime (a girl’s gotta keep warm on these cold nights!) and playtime makes her the perfect puppy!"
