Hi! I'm Tara! My foster mom named me that because they thought I was a goner when she got me out of the San Antonio pound (more on that later, but for some reason 'Gone With the Wind' stuck in her mind at the time), but now I'm ready for my forever family; could it be you? I'm about 10 mos. old and weigh around 45 lbs.
I was rescued from the San Antonio pound where I'd been put with the 'goners' -- the dogs that were too sick or aggressive to be saved -- because I was shivering and wouldn't eat and they thought I had distemper. My foster mom was walking through the kennel and saw me and thought she might be able to save me anyway, and she was right :) She put me in the car and took me to get some ribs and scraps in the hopes of getting me to eat, and when I woofed them down quickly, she knew I had a chance. As it turned out, I was just too tiny to keep myself warm in a big concrete kennel in the winter all alone, and the barking of the other dogs scared me so much I just hadn't felt like eating. That's not to say that I wasn't sick, too, and the pound was right on the distemper diagnosis, but, after a couple of months of love and affection and good food and medicine, I bounced back to being the happy and healthy puppy I should have been all along. Oh, and although I'm definitely mostly beagle, I'm not a barker, but I can be a bit of a digger ...
My distemper didn't seem to leave any lasting effects, so I don't have any special physical needs, but I am just a touch needy since I got so much individualized attention while I was in quarantine at my foster mom's for so long. Because of this, I will need human parents with patience and understanding, and my foster mom thinks I'll do best if I have another dog around to keep me company when my forever family is gone to work or school or whatever. I spend most of my time with Toby at my foster home, so, if you're interested in me, please consider taking us both as we'd love to stay together, but that isn't a requirement for adopting me.

Once we have reviewed your application, we will contact you to set up a home visit if we feel placement is a possibility. At the home visit, we will bring the requested pet to your house or other pre-arranged meeting place to determine if you might be a good 'fit' for each other. If we all agree an adoption is in everyone's best interest, we will make further arrangements at that time.
Please note that, although we do our best with age estimation and breed identification, we are almost always hampered by lack of definitive information. We attempt to note which pets are 'mixes' vs. those that may be purebred and to accurately indicate age, but, due to the nature of rescue, we cannot guarantee any pet's information to be other than our best guess at the time. We sometimes update / change our postings due to better information / additional expertise and apologize if this confuses anyone. If you believe we have misposted a pet or have an alternative suggestion for a pet's breed identification, please let us know and we'll gladly consider updating our data.
Also please note that, because we are an informal group of private fosters and not an incorporated rescue organization, we do not have a physical shelter for you to visit nor do we give out our home addresses or other personal information.
