My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
Hi, my name is Otto.

How old are you?
I’m about 3 years young.

What do you look like?
I am a handsome blockhead. I am fawn and white in color and my foster mom says I have a sexy muscular build. I am approximately 60 lbs.

What do you like to eat?
I love food! My foster mom feeds me dry dog kibble made from fish. I also love bully sticks, peanut butter kongs, and any treats my mom gives me!

What kind of personality do you have?
My foster mom calls me a Velcro dog. I prefer to stick next to my person at all times, I can be a little needy she says. But, I am good in my crate and in the evenings I am practicing on relaxing on a dog bed near my foster mom instead of laying on top of her. I LOVE to play with toys! I would prefer to have something in my mouth at all times. I do an adorable parade each time I have a toy, being sure to show every dog and human alike that I am so proud of my toy. I am a total wiggle butt, there is not a person that I am not excited to meet. I am learning to play Frisbee, I love the Frisbee, but I often don’t like to give it back. My favorite toy to have in my kennel is my Nylabone. It might as well be my pacifier. I am really good with dogs, I play rough with my playful foster doggie sister, but I am very respectful to my older foster doggie brother who doesn’t appreciate our rough play sometimes. I am very neutral around dogs on leash too.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would include a play session with my foster doggie sister, a walk, a good ear scratching session on the couch, and then of course chewing a Nylabone next to my foster mom.

What is your favorite toy?
Man, I love toys! I love chewing on Nylabones and antlers. I also love playing with ropes. I have a rope with a big ball on the end of it. I love to throw it up in the air and chase it; I can entertain myself with that toy for a long time!

Do you know any tricks?
I know “sit, down, and place!” Sometimes I am a little stubborn and need to be reminded that I should offer my command the first time I am asked too, but I am still learning! I also give an adorable high-five! I am learning to walk nicely in a heel, on a loose leash, it is taking practice, but I get better each day!

What scares you?
When I first moved into the foster home I was afraid of the automatic dishwasher and the self-closing trash can lid! Those contraptions caused me to hit the deck a few times, but I am way past that now, I am a pretty confident dude.

Do you like cats?
My mom hasn’t seen me around any cats, but… I am CRAZY for squirrels, like so crazy I even climbed a tree! My foster mom suggests that I stick to doggie and human friends.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
Yes! I live with three foster doggie siblings! I play with the neighbor dog and all of my foster mom’s friends’ dogs, I have been very socialized and I am doing great. I play a little too rough with small puppies and delicate small dogs though, so ideally I find a home with other durable doggie friends

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Wherever the people are! Most specifically, I want to be lying on my people’s lap.

How is your health?
I’m a pretty healthy boy! Before the day Even Chance rescued me from the shelter, I was rescued by a nice man with STL City Animal Control after I was ran over by a car. I was hurt pretty bad and he rushed me to the hospital to get all fixed up.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with my foster mom, a three-year-old human toddler. Also, my foster doggie brother and sister.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I have learned to hop into my kennel by myself whenever my foster mom says, “Go Home.”

Where do you sleep?
My mom has a special crate in her bedroom that I get to sleep in at night. Its cozy and filled with soft blankets and a nylabone, I hop right in like a good boy when my mom tells me to go night, night.

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that they have been patient with me and helped show me the ropes about living in a house. They saw potential in me and cared enough to take me in. They are helping prepare me for my forever family, which I’m very grateful for.

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
After my car accident and hospital trip I was placed in the care of St. Louis City Animal Control. They took great care of me until Even Chance was able to bring me into their foster program.

If you would like to meet Otto, please fill out an application at www.evenchance.org/adopt and an Even Chance representative will be in touch!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
