My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

An adoption application on MAGGIE can be found at the following link: http://wp.me/P73YMd-1h
Please email the completed application to weatherley.woofriver@gmail.com
Please submit an application AND do NOT also contact the shelter. You will be contacting both the adoption coordinator and the marketing director, who do not see each other's emails. This causes confusion.

Hi potential adopter! I am the director of Woof River Animal Rescue, and I feel compelled to write MAGGIE's bio personally. Why?.... because she quite possibly may be the most wonderful animal I have ever known!
MAGGIE is truly as gentle as a lamb. She wants nothing more than to please and be loved. She is appreciative of even the tiniest kind gesture. MAGGIE absolutely adores all other dogs. She doesn't ever feel the need to be the boss in a group. She lives in a foster home with an adult weimeraner and a senior beagle. We also have used her for temperament evaluations on many other dogs. Our rescue believes, "if you can't get along with MAGGIE, you can't get along with anyone." Her foster family was amazed at how exceptional she is. They said that from the day she arrived she was totally house trained and never chewed on furniture or other things that aren't hers. This came as no surprise to me. MAGGIE is such a kind soul with such a desire to be accepted that she doesn't want to do anything to risk getting in trouble. She is so happy to be in a home receiving love.
MAGGIE can be a tiny bit timid (never at all aggressive) the first couple minutes with new people. This does not apply to children; MAGGIE ADORES them!! She is instantly comfortable with every child she meets. She is even incredible with toddlers. MAGGIE doesn't protest going into her crate and once inside doesn't make a peep. She walks nicely on a leash and minds her manners on car rides so she would be a fantastic traveling companion.
An act as simple as a quick pet causes MAGGIE to stare up at you with eyes full of enough gratitude and kindness to make your own eyes shed a tear. This girl is the definition of what rescue should be. One MAGGIE every 5 or 10 years would be enough to keep me motivated to continue rescue for a lifetime. Her forever family is going to have an angel on earth in this girl!

Please email the completed application to weatherley.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed.

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, they travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Alpha Dog Pet Transport for our New England, Nashville, and Knoxville adoptions (https://alphadogtransport.com) and The Road Home Pet Transport for our Midwest adopters (https://www.facebook.com/roadhomepettransport).

Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.

Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.
