My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The first time I met Charlie Girl, she greeted me with a wiggle butt and lots of kisses!! She had to KNOW, I saved her. Despite her photo, she does have all four legs!! I remember that day. I was monitoring the group PM on Facebook as they were releasing dogs in San Antonio's high kill shelter. I didn't want to tag any. I already had saved some great dogs this year and was full for the next few months. But something about Charlie Girl. I hadn't even seen her before they posted her picture, 'RELEASED!!' She was heartworm negative, a trait not so popular in the south. She had a sweet face and looked so inquisitive in her shelter photo. She had all sorts of wrinkles in her neck and looked older than the barely mature 2 years old, the shelter stated in her profile. But they said she was reactive and didn't like other dogs. It was a death sentence. She was walking back to be killed. It was now or never. Either I saved her life or she became another photo on the RIP Wall...............I took a chance. My plan was to keep her in boarding for a few weeks until the next transport north and then foster her for a while before listing her for adoption. She went to boarding and a few weeks turned into a few months. I was backlogged with fearful and abused dogs, along with a couple medical cases. But eventually, I made room. FINALLY, Charlie Girl was on her way!! She has only been here a few days and I already know everything about her. She is easy to read and already so trusting of me. She LOVES people and reallllllly wants to like other dogs but, is still somewhat reserved around some. She likes small dogs, submissive dogs, and puppies. She is really just scared to death of new dogs!! So much that she runs and hides from them when she first sees them!! Once she gets to know them though, has a chance to watch them and see that they're not going to hurt her, she warms up and wants to meet them and play. She kisses and wiggles and is SO happy to have your attention!! She is somewhat timid in her new surroundings and she likes to check things out pretty well before trusting but, even while she is checking things out, she is still your best friend!! Once she is comfortable, you can see her relax. She is so, SO smart. She is alert and curious and observant of everything around her! Her senses are on high alert, always. If she feels threatened, she will turn away, exhibit a low growl, and keep her distance. She is not one to pounce and act aggressively. She is one to hide and cower. She needs a family who will be patient and kind, building her confidence and teaching her the ways of the world. She knows sit and come; she is crate and house trained; and, she walks very well on a leash. She loves to play fetch and bounce around the yard with you, chasing and playing with each other! She also realllllly enjoys sitting in your lap and getting loved on! She is just waiting for her perfect someone to come along and show her what true love is all about!! Please email if you are interested in adopting Charlie Girl and forever making her a part of your family. We require an adoption application, references, home check and adoption contract. Her adoption fee is $250, and she is up to date on vaccinations, HW negative and taking preventative, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Each adoption is considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the dog and their requirements as well as the family and their circumstances. Please email or call if interested. Please, NO TEXT MESSAGES.
