My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Deferred Shelter Intake*** Lovely Shepherd boy Jax is in urgent need of a forever or foster home!!! Time is running out!! Due to no fault of his own he may soon find himself in an overpopulated high-kill-shelter. PLEASE HELP us prevent that by applying to foster or adopt Jax TODAY!!!

BASIC INFO

Jax is a 2 year old male purebred GSD, ~90 lbs. His original owner got him from a pet store. She moved away and left him with his current owner, but he is unable to keep him due to cost and time.

SOCIALIZATION

Jax lived with an adult man and an adult woman and is currently staying with the adult man. Jax is friendly/outgoing with ~80% of people he meets, jumping up and licking them. He approaches the other 20% cautiously, with his head low, sniffs them, walks away, and watches them. He has barked at new people a couple of times, but doesn’t lunge. At the park, 2 children (~3-4 years old) ran up to him. He backed away and growled. Jax plays exuberantly with adults. He lived with a neutered male Pit Bull since he (Jax) was brought home at 4 months old. Jax is relaxed, playful, and tolerant, and plays exuberantly with this dog. They share their toys. Outside, he ignores dogs in the distance. If dogs within 5-6 feet of him make eye contact with him, he lunges and barks. He growls at and tries to chase stray cats. Jax hasn’t bit anyone.

BEHAVIOR

Jax doesn’t mind storms. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He loves being brushed and being bathed in the tub. He doesn’t mind when strangers approach his owner. He might bark at strangers that enter his home, so his owner takes Jax to meet visitors down the street and they take a walk together. When they return home, he’s friendly with them.

FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW

Jax’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. His favorite activities are running and playing and receiving belly rubs. Jax follows his family. He plays fetch and tug and likes balls, squeaky toys, bones, and rope toys. He lived inside and slept on a dog bed. He ate dry Blue Buffalo food and enjoyed Blue Buffalo training treats. He’s housetrained, potties in grass and dirt, and doesn’t have accidents. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He was crated when he was a puppy. He will go in his crate when asked and does well while alone. He doesn’t need to be crated anymore. Jax is obedient. He went for slow and brisk walks and went for runs with his owner on his bike. He doesn’t pull on his leash.
