My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

:UPDATE: Faramir (Fair-Uh-Mirror) has been named. His namesake is a Lord of the Rings' character who is a Captain, a simple but brave man staunch in demeanor but with a healthy sense of humor and compassion for others. He is loyal and hard working.

He is about 2 years old and has come out of his shell nicely. He is a real gem! Not a single problem with this dog so far. He does fine with other dogs, is curious but not aggressive with the cat, and has been exceptional with children, including toddlers and babies. Never having been inside a house before I got him (that was clear from his timid behavior), he has adapted well.

He willingly goes to his crate to rest and has done very well with house training (despite still needing to be neutered). Faramir has gained weight and is doing fine, physically. His digestive system has finally adapted to healthy dog food (Taste of the Wild), although he remains a picky eater.

Faramir must move soon, either to foster care or to a permanent home. He was under the radar briefly, but a landlord is pressuring me to lower the number of dogs here (and we are already one over the limit as it is).

This boy was eating a rotting deer along the roadside yesterday when I passed by on fumes and having just spent my last change on food, so I did what rescuers do and turned around, hoping the gas would hold out. It did. :)

No socialization. It was clear he never entered a vehicle or a house until yesterday, and, this morning when I bent to kiss his head, he looked at me with an expression clearly questioning what I was about to do. He is a hunter's discarded dog. WAIT! Edit that verb tense to past: WAS a hunter's discarded dog. NOW he is RESCUED! I hope the hunter who lost him becomes a victim, but that I cannot impact.

Still intact, it appears, but also house-trained, apparently. Kennel trained, but I see no reason he would need one. Has shown no reaction to my dogs or a cat (from inside a kennel . . . I have a set of three who do not get along with each other or other dogs very well). Very docile but also clearly tired out from running.

I do not have money for any vetting and need him to be on his way ASAP for his safety. I believe he is a mix of Coonhound/Retriever/Lab/and/or Irish Setter (but I could be wrong on all accounts). Other than a cut on his nose that has healed and being skin and bones, he appears to be injury free.

I will NOT hand him over to anyone who hunts. Period. He will NOT go back to that life. Screening of potential adopters done through Canine Kindness in Davenport, IA. Adoption fee determined on individual basis and how it is used is negotiable. Neutering will be REQUIRED (which may well be taken care of by part or all of an adoption fee . . . I don't want to gouge adopters, nor do I want to profit from him, but I do want to ensure adopters have plenty of funds for proper dog care and can support him in the lifestyle to which I would like him to become accustomed). :) If you don't want to prove that you are a suitable adopter, don't bother.
