My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Cairo! This little man is a fun-loving, playful Corgi/Chihuahua mix. With his long body and big ol' ears, but the narrowness and skinny Chihuahua legs, it's hard to argue! The way he carries himself is just like a Corgi, bouncing around, super friendly with everyone! Cairo is both housebroken and crate trained. He doesn't need a crate, but he is happy to use one!

You see, Cairo was found in a box with 7 other litter mates. He was the runt of the bunch, and the nice lady who found them was able to re-home all of the other puppies. Unfortunately, Mr. Cairo still needed a home. They took care of all the hard stuff – getting him to come out of his shell, housebreaking, etc, and now we get to play with this happy little man and find him his forever home :) Cairo does great with other dogs and tends to feel more confident around them. He's a little bit of a shy guy to start, but once he trusts you (and that doesn't take very long), his role in life is to make you smile :) Bagheera is his foster sister and the two of them romp around and wrestle a good deal. He can definitely keep up with the big guys, but is super gentle when playing with people or smaller dogs; he mirrors his partner pretty darn well. Cairo would do best in a home with another playful dog, or an active household where he can run around with the kids and strut his spunky self. He's just such a happy-go-lucky pup, he needs someone to share his fun-loving spirit with!

When it comes to the great outdoors, Cairo is a bit hesitant. Though he gets very excited for walks, he crouches down and bows his head when Foster Mom puts his leash on. When cars drive by, he gets a bit spooked so it's important he has a harness-lead so he doesn't back out. But getting into cars is no problem at all; he loves car rides! Sometimes he looks out the window, but mostly he curls up behind the driver seat and just sleeps until he reaches his destination. If a stranger comes into the house and he isn't preoccupied, he'll give a few grunty barks and seems a bit nervous. Within a couple of minutes he'll be your best friend and cuddle up next to you, dance around to get you to play with him, and just try to make you smile! He isn't a fan of getting picked up - while he tolerates it, he gets extremely awkward and stiff, so he's not going to be that needy dog that wants to be held all the time. But he does like to nuzzle his nose and burrow his head into your arm when sitting on the couch. It just makes your heart melt!

If you're looking for a good brewery buddy, Cairo is your man. If he walks into Terrapin, SBC or Creature Comforts, he does fine with the commotion around him. He'll happily sit by your feet and curl up while you sip on your brews, just admiring the scenery. If other dogs are around, he's eager to make a new best friend, but he doesn't force it. He's the perfect buddy to take to dog-friendly restaurants since he's such a mild-mannered youngster!

To ensure our dogs are placed in a safe environment, we require a home visit for all adoptions. Because of this, we typically only adopt to homes within 30 minutes of Athens, GA. If you are further away than that and are interested in one of our pups, please still fill out an application and we can discuss your options. Please understand that you would be responsible for all transportation - meeting the dog, picking the dog up to start a trial, returning the dog should he/she not be a good fit, etc. Please visit our website for more info.
