My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gidgee is a Havanese/Shih Tzu mix, 5 or 6 yeas old, about 12 pounds. Gidgee came to us originally from a rural pound where she was taken in from a hoarding situation. She came to us in terrible condition with little hair. After quite a while in rescue she was shiny and new and found a wonderful home. Gidgee was in her home for about 2 years and sadly the man in the house passed suddenly and after Gidgee's mom was diagnosed with cancer. No longer able to care for Gidgee, she went to live with her owner's daughter but with two teenage labs, Gidgee was NOT happy. We welcomed Gidgee back into rescue. Our hearts and prayers go out to Kathy's family.

Gidgee is a quiet little dog. She is very much a person dog, VERY much a toy dog. She is well behaved, house trained, leash and crate trained. She is not a joyful walker so short walks for just fine for her. She does enjoy the car and snuggling. Gidgee does play with her foster siblings but can be an only dog. She is fine with cats and would be fine in a home with respectful children that are 12 and older. She is used to a quiet environment.

When Gidgee entered rescue the first time, she was in pretty desperate condition and she had a hard road to recovery. With a compromised immune system she needed extra support. She left us eating a balanced raw, no grain diet and she could have no chemicals - no flea or heart worm preventative, no vaccinations, no chemicals in the yard, home or laundry. Kathy, Gidgee's mom, cared for her and kept her in perfect condition. She will need to go into a home that will continue this care. It was her road back to health and will continue to ensure she is healthy in the future. Fortunately there are a number of natural flea and heartworm preventatives and no grain raw diets get easier and more accessible every year; frozen, freeze dried or dehydrated. We are happy to help you with Gidgee's program.

Gidgee's adoption will require a fenced yard or fenced area that leads directly from a door into the house. She will need someone that is not working away from home a typical 8 hour work day, someone that works part time (not more than 4 hours a day), works from home or is retired. Gidgee is used to her person being home all the time and although she can be left without a problem we feel that it is not fair to leave her a typical 8 hour work day. Gidgee will, of course, have to be maintained on her diet and natural care program.

Gidgee is as sweet as she can be. Your lap, her toys, snuggling in bed are the most important things in her life. She is a very quiet dog that just wants to spend her time with you. She was much loved in her home and she misses her person. This devoted dog needs another devoted person in her life.

Gidgee must be placed within a 2 hour driving distance from Wooster, OH. so that she can accompany us on our home visit. ALL OF GIDGEE'S REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR ADOPTION. WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING RESPECTFUL OF OUR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS.

Star-Mar Rescue is a natural care provider. We use no chemicals on our dogs, no commercial flea products (oral or topical), do blood titers instead of randomly vaccinating. Our yards are without fertilizer and weed killer and our homes are toxin free. We feel that dogs can be protected without being harmed with harsh chemicals and unnecessary vaccinations and do best on a species appropriate no grain, raw diet. We are happy to talk with you about caring for your dogs in a way that keeps them happy and healthy long into their senior years. We place our dogs in homes that are already practicing natural care or homes that are eager to learn and practice natural care going forward. In you are not interested in this type of care we understand but ask that you please look for your new dog elsewhere.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet with Gidgee's needs, please contact Janet at janetklein99@gmail.com or call 609-915-3755 for an application or more information. Gidgee's adoption will require an approved application and a home visit, with the adoption completed at Gidgee's foster home in Wooster OH. Gidgee's adoption fee is $275.
