My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toulouse: 3 yr old male, Chocolate-Spotted Ocicat
must be adopted with his brother, Blue

Special fee $275

Here is Toulouse, the third of the three Ocicat brothers. He is a beautiful boy. He is a “Chocolate" like his brother Lucien, but he has the darker background fur. His coloring makes his golden eyes glow.

Toulouse is a tender boy and came in more upset and shyer than his brothers. Something has happened to make him less trusting of what life brings to him. I have had him for a while now and he seems daily more comfortable with us, but he is still unfolding. He is very bonded with his brother Blue. Just recently I missed getting a photo of the two of them squeezed together sleeping in a tiny basket. I really wanted that photo, but as I came near, they got up to see me. I will keep trying.

We took in these kitties from an Ocicat breeder who had age and health problems and needed help as she approached the end of her life. Purebreds took into foster her 4 adult cats. Three were males as mentioned above and the last was a female. These kitties arrived really quite stressed out. The last months of their life in their home had probably not gone well. Lucien was the most mellow of the three, which is why he was ready and went home first. After a long ride to Oregon, his delight in his new home was immediate and within two weeks he was best buddies with the young Bengal in that home. Blue and his brother have needed more time to settle in. Blue is still able to be startled, but he is doing very well. He is displaying himself and posing for the camera. Toulouse is catching up quickly.

Ocicats are very devoted to their owners and will follow them around. Many are leash trained. These are fairly large cats, muscular, athletic, very playful, active, and mischievous. They do not do well alone and need another cat companion or dog to keep them company. This is why Blue and his brother will go home together. It is great fun to watch these two boys together.

Ocicats with their spotted coats are bred to resemble cats in the wild, especially the spotted Ocelots. They do not, however, have any wild cat blood in them. They are simply beautiful domestic cats bred from Abyssinian and Siamese and American Shorthairs to resemble wild cats.

The adopter of these two will need to be a confident and patient person, willing to let these boys finish growing into their social Ocicat heritage. They are coming out of an unhappy situation and need an understanding adopter who will be delighted to watch them unfold. For the first month with us, they both hid most of the time that we were around. Now they are out and interested in the exciting and entertaining things humans do. They are coming to us. Their new family will be so lucky to have their companionship..

Toulouse eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

His foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
