My story

This red-eared slider is ~7-8 inches and growing. He will each be about 12 inches long as an adult. He will need a large tank or pond to live in. There is no adoption fee.

Red-eared sliders are native to Indiana but do not require a permit to own. You may not own more than 4 RES. Our turtles are not able to survive on their own in the wild. Please see the DNR website for more information: http://www.state.in.us/dnr/fishwild/3328.htm

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application online at http://acritterschance.net/available-animals.

We adopt to homes in Indiana and nearby states only. We DO NOT ship our animals.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting a critter:
Please follow the link to download our adoption application and contract: http://www.acritterschance.org/Adopt.html

Fill out both documents and mail them to A Critter's Chance, P.O. Box 1105, Greenfield, IN 46140 or send it via email to anosie@gmail.com. After receiving the information, we will contact you to discuss the adoption. Please note, your application will be reviewed and references will be checked. It is very helpful to us if you can provide references from your vet's office or other animal-related organizations. We also require a home visit. Submission of an application is not a guarantee of approval. We take great care to place animals in homes that will be appropriate for the animal and the family it is going to. Please understand, our screening process is in place to assist the animals and the families who adopt them. It is very disappointing to adopt a new pet, only to find out it does not suit your family. It is also difficult for the animals to be moved from home to home due to failed adoptions. We screen well up front in an attempt to prevent future disappointments or problems.

Prior to submitting an application, please do research on the exotic animal you would like to adopt. Exotic animals should actually be in their natural habitat, rather than kept as pets. If you do decide to adopt one, you must understand their special needs. We will only adopt to responsible individuals, and some exotics are only placed in zoos or sanctuaries. If you need help in understanding the particular needs for an animal you are interested in, please contact us. We will be happy to help you!

Please note, you must be approved to adopt prior to meeting an animal. This saves us a great deal of time! If you would like to adopt an animal from us at some point in the future, please see the paragraph below in order to become pre-approved for adoption. This greatly expedites the adoption process when the animal you are looking for becomes available.

Become pre-approved to adopt!
If you think you may be interested in adopting one of our critters in the future, don't wait to submit your application and contract! You can fill them out and mail them now. When we receive your information, we will call you to discuss the species of animal you are interested in. At this time, assuming everything goes well with our screening process, we can put you on our pre-approved list of adopters. When an animal comes to us that you are interested in adopting, the screening process is already complete. This speeds up the adoption process. Please note, we DO NOT adopt out wildlife!! Native wildlife is released back into their natural habitat.

Go meet their pets

We bring animals to the Hendricks County Humane Society on the second Sunday of every month. All other events are listed on our Facebook page. If you want to meet a certain animal, please let us know ahead of time so we can make arrangements.

More about this rescue

We are a 501c3 organization specializing in wildlife rehabilitation and exotic/domestic pet rescue. While we're based in Indiana, we assist people and organizations throughout the country. In addition to caring for the animals we receive, we also offer the following:

Exotic/Domestic pet adoption (Wildlife is released back into their native habitat.)
Educational programs throughout central Indiana to both the private and public sectors
Working with local animal shelters and rescues (both government and private) to retrieve wildlife and exotic animals relinquished to their care. Most organizations do not have the knowledge or facilities to care for these animals.
Support to government officials for changing laws to better monitor animal treatment and to hold individuals guilty of animal abuse/neglect accountable
Networking with other community organizations to improve animal protection, treatment, and rescue efforts
Information on care of orphaned wildlife and exotic/domestic pets at community events and on our website

We truly strive to carry out our mission statement:
To be a voice for the animals; to educate the public about animal responsibility and ensure that animals are treated humanely and given a “chance.” To make certain that every available resource is used to find adoptive homes for domestic animals and to return wildlife to their natural environment.

A Critter's Chance does not receive any government funding. We depend on the kindness of animal lovers and their contributions in order to care for the animals and cover our operational costs. We very much appreciate all help and donations! Without the kindness of fellow animal lovers we could not operate!
