My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

12/14/08: It's only been about a week and Roxie is a completely different dog! She's gained a significant amount of weight, though she still has some pounds to go. She is enjoying something she never got a chance to do before, PLAY! It's a completely new concept for her and in the past few hours I have seen her dig through the toy box to see what each new one is. She is even gaining confidence and had decided to put down her walls and play with her foster brother. It touches my heart to see her do the boxer play bow when only a week earlier she was scared and shaking in the back seat of my car.

I am amazed how easily a dog can forgive. Roxie will make an amazing addition to your home, not only because she is such a sweetheart but because she knows what it was like to not have even the basic necessities of life and will love you that much more for giving them to her.

12/12/08: Meet two year old Roxie. Roxie finds herself a very lucky girl to have made her way into rescue. Roxie was taken in by a volunteer who goes to college in Indiana. Her prior owner was starving her and was going to take her to the kill shelter where she would most likely have been euthanized. The first night Roxie was taken in she had to visit the Animal Emergency Clinic because her stomach was so bloated she was in pain. Her owner must have stuffed her with food the day she was to be rescued to make her look less emaciated. The overwhelming amount of food and the parasites already in her made her sick. She weighed a shocking 29 pounds and the vet estimated she should be about 45-50 pounds.

Roxie is doing much better, she has gotten medicine and is starting to put weight on. Despite the horror she has had to live with the past two years she is extremely friendly. She wiggles her little nub all the time and you can just tell by those eyes she is thankful to have been rescued. She is being fostered with another boxer and only a few days after being there she started to play and chase him around the house.

Roxie is coming to New Jersey on December 19th where she will be fostered and she will be available for adoption after then. With a lot of love and some good food Roxie will be ready for adoption in no time, and she will be a wonderful addition to someone's home. Because of all Roxie has gone through, her medical needs were costly and any donations to sponsor her would be greatly appreciated!
