My story

Spuds is a long legged lemon beagle/lab mix, 5 and a half years old and 40-45 lbs.  He's got a stubbed tail - shelter thought he had some cocker spaniel in him - we don't see it. He has developed some great friendships with other B&B dogs - might help if he was adopted with one of those companions.

Very selective of his people - not good with strangers. He will bite. But with the right people, he's a good boy- friendly, loves cuddles, mingles well with other dogs, runs around the yard, and follows his people obediently.  Does well on a leash.

Here's how he likes to learn to trust:  Someone come very frequently and spend 15+ minutes with him - less in the beginning.  Check in with him - go volunteer with another dog or other task - and then back to him.  Repeat this often and until he is happy to see you.  That is how he learned to LOVE us here.

We rescue a fair number of very shy, unsocialized dogs - they can heal - if we, the people, don't mess it up.  We use the help of a terrific trainer/dog whisperer - terristeuben.com

Please find our applications and valuable information under  "Adopt a dog"* on our website:  *www.beaglesandbuddies.com* and email your application to beaglesandbuddies@gmail.com. Let us know your preference of appointment day/time and which dogs you are interested in and we will do our best to accommodate and email you the closest appointment available. Please allow us up to a week to get back to you. Most appointments will be Friday-Sunday, 10 am - 2 pm, for an hour.

*Note bring any other dog/s and the entire family to your meet and greet at B&B.* A complimentary training manual is included with each adoption, authored by terristeuben.com. Check out her website - she is fabulous!

B&B is glad to be open during the pandemic. We know the value and comfort of a loving pet companion and are doing our best to help the dogs and folks who need them. We update our website daily and are always rescuing, vetting, rehabilitating, socializing.

* We are accepting applications for volunteers to spend time with our dogs, hang out, sing/read to the shy ones, walk/toss ball with those who go to the playgrounds; cleaning, office work, gardening, and building/repair projects! *

*Note that young dogs and pure breeds are at the highest end of our prices.*

 Are you my furrever family?

For further info on the adoption process, please visit our home page and check out the "Adopt a Dog" section, which has thorough instructions.  All our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and  fully vaccinated before adoption; they have been wormed, bathed, socialized, walked daily and much loved; each adoptee leaves with a leash, collar, and all medical records.

Our prices are higher than the shelters' because we nurse the dogs through their illnesses and get them needed surgeries and dentals. We also spend time socializing. Furthermore, unlike shelters, rescues do not get financial aid from the government and must rely on donations, grants, and adoption fees. Our fees for adults start at $150 and usually go up to $750. Young adults that are high in demand may be a little over $750.00. For puppies and purebreds, we charge up to $1000. The lower end is for dogs who have been here a while. The good news is that, because rescues fall under the "charity" category, the fees for our dogs are officially donations and are therefore tax deductible. You can think of it as donating to a worthy cause and getting a dog in return!

More about this rescue

www.beaglesandbuddies.com Please visit our website before emailing... most everything about the adoption process is answered! We hope this material will help you decide if a Beagles & Buddies canine companion should be in your future. If you're considering a "rescued companion", you will need to know that all dogs that enter our rescue are screened before they are available for adoption. They are checked for temperament problems, given all required vaccines, spayed or neutered and are socialized. A donation is requested as well as a signed adoption contract. Donations range from $150 - $750 depending on the age and breed. We support our non-profit and no-kill sanctuary from funds generated by these donations, therefore, puppy and pure-bred donations, which are higher, help keep the older, less adoptable dogs from harms way. Our older dogs often require dental care, blood work and other attention. We also have a great track record at finding our older canine companions great homes, as well! We are looking for serious people and families who will be responsible canine companion adopters; which means making the dog part of your family, providing inside/outside homes, quality food, veterinary care, attending training classes and making a commitment to the dog for the rest of its' life, through good times and bad. If you fit this description, we look forward to helping you find a canine companion suitable for your family - because that's what we do best! ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION: Beagles & Buddies is a no-kill sanctuary for unwanted or abandoned dogs, established in 1992 as the official breed rescue for Beagles and other hound dogs. We specialize in purebred and mixed Beagles, but we also rescue Basset, Blue and Red Tick, Plott, Black and Tans, Tree Walker Coon Hounds, Dachshunds, and (mostly small) dogs of other breeds. The kennel is a member of H.A.R.T. a nonprofit animal welfare and social service agency serving Southern California. Beagles & Buddies volunteers work tirelessly to find secure, happy new homes for as many of the resident dogs as possible.
