My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in meeting Toffee, please fill out an adoption application at www.evenchance.org.adopt

What is your name?
My name is Toffee! Like a piece of toffee candy!

How old are you?
I am young, but not too young! The vet thinks I am around 1 and 1/2 years old.

What do you look like?
I have a beautiful dark brindle coat, with a few spots of white. My front paws are white! I have the most adorable underbite!! My dad says sometimes I have goofy ears.

What do you like to eat?
My foster parents give me this really yummy food. I don’t know what it is but they say it is healthy for me, so I like that. I also love to eat carrots, blueberries, and any treat my foster parents will give me

What kind of personality do you have?
I am still relatively young, so I have a lot of energy! But I am also really easy going and an overall relaxed dog. I love a good bone in the evening before falling asleep on the couch.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would consist of waking up and rolling around in my foster parents bed to get some energy out! Then I would love to run around in the back yard for a few hours while grabbing a bite of tree, plant, or grass in-between laps. After that, my foster brother and I could run around and play tug of war. The day would end with looking out the front door and some cuddles!!

What is your favorite toy?
My foster brother is only allowed to chew on hard nylabones, so thats all i get too! But i love them too! And recently we have both been allowed to play with hard rubber toys! Paul the rubber penguin is my favorite toy!

Do you know any tricks?
I can sit and lay down! I also can leap like a mountain goat! I am also house broken!

What scares you?
I can startle easily if i don’t recognize something or am in a deep sleep and get woken by a loud noise

Do you like cats?
I met one cat at Dr. Johnson’s office! I liked him!!! While I don’t have a ton of experience with cats, my foster parents think I could be okay with them

Do you have any doggie best friends?
My foster brother, Chip! He is the main dog that I get to hang out with every day. I also like my grandparents dog Bella! Chip and I play and snuggle with each other almost every day.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I want to be the center of attention to any humans in the room! I have serious FOMO (fear of missing out) so anytime someone moves or is in a different room, I like to follow.

How is your health?
I came to Even Chance in great healthy shape.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with my two human foster parents, David and Emma and my foster brother Chip. Sometimes Bella spends the weekend with us. I am not the best dog at meeting other dogs. I need to follow them and see what they are doing at all times, sometimes this can be a little rude. So my foster parents think i would be best in a home with no other dog or in a home with a patient dog.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?

When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind laying in there until someone comes home to play with me! I also eat all of my meals in the crate so that I can associate it with a safe and positive place. Sometimes, I am restless and bark in my crate if i know someone is upstairs…you know FOMO.

Where do you sleep?
I spend my nights dreaming away in my crate. It helps me settle down and get a good night of sleep! If my foster parents don’t wake up early enough, some times I will help them with some wining….you know FOMO.

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my foster family gives me lots of attention. I also love that they are showing me the ropes of how to live in a home and give me a safe comfortable place to be a dog!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
Before being rescued, I was once adopted and returned to St. Louis County Animal Control. This made my foster parents sad. After they met me, they don’t know how anyone could return me! I am the sweetest dog ever!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
