My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BE SURE TO WATCH ROXIE'S VIDEO! Ms. Roxie came to us after her owner passed away. She is a 7 year old Labradoodle (Mini not Standard) She has been a dream dog in rescue. She is house trained, crate trained (but doesn't need one), leash trained (LOVES her walks), LOVES to play ball, enjoys her car rides and has slept from day one on a dog bed in her foster's bedroom. We have not tested her with cats but can so that. Obviously Roxie had a past with a lot of love and attention. It shows!

Roxie is a quiet, easy dog. She enjoys your company and wants to be with you and do what you're doing. She is affectionate and not a barker. She is a no shed/low shed dog that will require grooming.

She LOVES her walks and needs to have a home where walking is a daily routine. Roxie came to us quite overweight at 55 pounds. She has lost a considerable amount and seems to have reached her ideal weight now. She very much enjoys her daily walks and they are good for her! We would guess that Roxie should weigh around 35, 40 pounds at the most. She was being fed a very small amount of dry food so that tells us that she can't handle the carbohydrates that are packed into dry food. Since a dry food diet is not what Roxie needs to be fit and healthy, she is being fed a species appropriate balanced raw diet in her foster home. She will need to remain on this diet to maintain her weight and live a long, healthy life. We are happy to discuss this with you.

Roxie was an only dog for most of her life. She loves to play with toys and loves to play fetch but doesn't seem to know how or care to learn to play with other dogs in her foster home. At times she becomes agitated when the other dogs in her foster home run and play which indicates to us that she would be best as an only dog.

For a time before coming into rescue Roxie lived in a home where there were children and we were told that she was fine with them. We feel that she would be best suited for a family that has children that are 12 and up. She would do well with a somewhat active person or couple that likes to go for walks and play with their dog or an active family that will incorporate their dog into their life.

Roxie's adoption requirements are -- someone who is not working away from home a typical 8 hour work day. Roxie has spent her whole life with her owner home with her. Her adopter needs to work very part time (4 hours or less a day), work from home or be retired. Roxie's adoption requires a fenced yard or an area of the yard fenced that is large enough for her to exercise in and is accessible directly into the house. We do feel that Roxie would do well with a wireless or underground fence. We ask that you please respect our fence policy.

Star-Mar Rescue is a natural care provider. We use no chemicals on our dogs, no commercial flea products (oral or topical), do blood titers instead of randomly vaccinating. Our yards are without fertilizer and weed killer and our homes are toxin free. We feel that dogs can be protected without being harmed by harsh chemicals and unnecessary vaccinations and do best on a species appropriate, no grain, raw diet whether that be a frozen raw, freeze dried or dehydrated or at a minimum a no grain, high quality kibble if the dog can tolerate it. We are happy to talk with you about caring for your dogs in a way that keeps them happy and healthy long into their senior years. We place our dogs into homes that are already practicing natural care or homes that are eager to learn. We are convinced that natural care adds years to our dog's lives. We are happy to share with you ways to keep your dog healthy and happy for well into their teens and even into their 20's.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet with Roxie's needs, please contact Martha at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-466-3667 or 330-262-0515 for an application or more information. Roxie's adoption will require an approved application and a home visit, with adoption completed at Roxie's foster home in Winesburg, OH. Roxie's adoption fee is $275. We will work to place Roxie within a 2 hour hour driving distance from her foster home so that we can conduct our own home visit bringing Roxie with us.
