My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

POSTED 11/13/17. Arnold came to The Nest at the end of July from a local animal shelter/humane society. He had been picked up as a stray and he was never claimed. He was covered in fleas, very thin, he had an eye injury, he had a "swagger" gait due to an old back injury and he was not neutered. Arnold is super very cute with a big personality - his foster mom calls him her "husky" :) We think he may be mixed with a pug because his head is roundish and a bit big in comparison to the rest of the body. He is super cute and super sweet and he gets along great with every body and everything. He is about 6-8 years old and he weighs about 9 lbs. While in foster care, Arnold has been receiving excellent care and he is doing great! He put on much needed weight, his eye has been treated and is just fine now, and he is neutered! :) As to his old back injury, x-rays have been taken and they show compressed disks (L4,L5) and really there is nothing to be surgically done about it as the window during which surgery can still help has closed a very long time ago. This means that Arnold, at times, may walk with a bit of an off gait when he first starts walking but really, once he gets going no one can tell he has an old injury. What helps him the most is walking thus exercising his rear legs and keeping up the muscle tone that makes up for the back when supporting his body. He gets around great and he LOVES going for walks and being active. His foster mom worked very hard on strengthening his body and hind leg muscles. Arnold loves going for walks and whoever adopts him needs to be able to take him for walks at least twice/day (up to 30 min. walks are good) to keep up the strength in his hind legs. He needs to be watched when there are steps (needs to be picked up) or when he tries jumping off a couch or bed - not allowed - . Ideally he should not do any steps as he could re-injure his back. Arnold is very smart and does want to please his human. He is making great progress with the house training but will certainly mark his territory at first. So an accident or two can happen initially but really he knows better and learns very quickly. Arnold can be crated for a few hours with a soft chewy of some sort. He does not really like being in a crate, it seems to stress him so it would be better if he could be confined to a larger area with a pet gate or so. Arnold is fine with other dogs of all sizes and he is fine around cats. We don't want him to go to a home with larger young dogs as they could potentially hurt him when playing. We also don't want him to go to a home where there is more than one other dog as he really would like more attention. We have learned that Arnold LOVES being outside and so we want a home with a securely fenced in yard where he can hang out at his little heart's content. Arnold is current on vaccinations including Rabies, he is neutered, he tested negative for heartworm, he is current on heartworm/flea prevention, he is micro chipped and he had a thorough exam including blood panel and x-rays and a dental. If you are interested in giving this super cutie a loving forever home please fill out an adoption application on our web site inthenest.net (an application has to be filled out prior to setting up a meeting) Arnold's adoption fee is $200. No children please.
