My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sasha Fierce is the name given to this adorable little girl when she was rescued by Odie’s Place but don’t let that fool you because, first and foremost, she is a love-bug. Sashie dearly loves all people and her two, older foster siblings. She loves to play with them or will happily amuse herself if they don’t want to play. And, she loves to ride in the car. Sasha still behaves very much like a silly puppy and seems to relish “entertaining” with her spunky, impish ways. As with most Chihuahuas, Sashie won’t hesitate to sound an alarm when something is not familiar or quite right by her standards but she is learning to control that. She puts on a great show of bravery but her biggest threat is that she is a completely unapologetic “kisser” of everyone who will let her. And, she does have a stubborn streak which can be both exasperating and endearing when she’s doing something that she shouldn’t because, seemingly in her mind, it’s all part of her life’s mission of fun and games. But, once the fun of any day is done, she loves to curl up and do her best couch potato impression.   Sashie has been a foster with Odie’s Place for quite some time and is more than ready to find her forever homge. So, if you are looking for a little, fun-loving, and protective companion who will keep you laughing as well as on your toes as she continues to work, learn and find her way to maturity, Sashie just may be that special little one you are looking for.  Sashie has luxating patella of both knees. If you are familiar with this condition or know of anyone with experience with it then you understand that it can range from a dog's manageable annoyance to one requiring surgical repair to maintain a dog's continual comfort. If you are unfamiliar with this condition, please do a bit of research and ask any questions you may have so that we can discuss Sashie's diagnosis further.  Sashie does not require surgery at this time.  No one can accurately predict whether Sashie will ever NEED surgery and her current vet is not a proponent of it. She seems to feel that keeping Sashie’s weight down, using physical therapy and joint supportive supplements should be employed as early measures to hopefully prevent further progression. However, there is the distinct likelihood that she will eventually develop arthritis with such ill-fitting knees but only time will tell on how, when or whether she will progress to needing surgery. However, with a dog diagnosed so at such an early age, it seems that this greatly increases the chance that surgery may eventually be the best treatment option and it seems that sooner rather than later would increase the chance of a successful outcome with shorter rehab and both pain and mobility sparing results going forward as she ages.
