My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sadie! This sweet and oh-so-pretty 7 year old, 55-pound pit bull mix is located in Winchendon, MA. Like a diva, she dreams big and insists on a certain type of person to adopt her, and a certain type of place to call home.

Sadie loves to play and has lots of energy. She is built of solid muscle and is always ready to hit the trails, chase a ball, and work for treats. She enjoys a comfy spot in a private corner to recharge her energizer batteries.

Sadie is housebroken, and knows basic commands such as sit and stay. She likes training with treats. She will need more one-on-one obedience training to improve skills but this work will also build a bond with her adopter. Sadie’s foster will help find an appropriate trainer and cover the cost of six lessons. Sadie loves her snacks and meals, but is overly food-centric so all food must be kept out of her reach at all times.

Sadie is strong and healthy, up-to-date on vaccines, and spayed. She does have food sensitivity that causes itchy paws and ears, but medication and diet changes help reduce licking and scratching. Sadie has some behaviors likely related to a trauma in early life, but her history is unknown. She gets alarmed by sudden sharp noises like a screech or clap and by sudden unexpected movements. She tends to be “on alert” much of the time and it’s not easy for her to relax. She has a vet appointment scheduled to help with this anxious behavior. More information will be available soon.

Sadie’s ideal person is calm, confident, and experienced. It’s a really tall order, but Sadie needs a super hero that looks like this:

Experienced with dogs who have similar behavior issues
Able to provide daily medication and food needs
Willing to provide structure and set standards (lifetime need)
Lives in a RURAL area with little foot or road traffic
Has a quiet single family home with only 1-2 adults (fence preferred)
Has no kids, no kids who regularly visit
Has no cats and no other dogs.

Sadie is dog-selective but based on past experience it’s possible for her to have playmates outside of the home after proper introductions are made.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
