My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
My Name is Wanda! Rumor on the street is that the lady who cut me off my chain named me after her grandmother.

How old are you?
I am believed to be about 3 years old! The vet thinks I probably had one littler of puppies.

What do you look like?
I call myself a seal color. I look like I have a black coat most of the time, but have some brown running through my coat when the sun hits it right. I have a white bat-lady pattern on my chest!

What do you like to eat?
My foster parents give me this really yummy food. I don’t know what it is but they say it is healthy for me, so I like that. I also love to eat anything healthy my foster parents will give me. I have learned to love carrots, apples, bananas, and other yummy fruits and veggies that are safe for dogs.

What kind of personality do you have?
I am a lover. I just want to be next to, or preferably on top of my human all the time! I am playful and have a lot of energy when I wake up or get out the the crate after my humans work! I am also pretty smart! I have learned to bark to tell my humans I need to go outside.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would consist of waking up and running around the backyard to get my energy out! Then I would love to come inside and chew on a nylabone for at least an hour at a time. Sometimes, I sneak off and chew on things I am not supposed to, like dad’s sock so you will want to keep an eye on me. Next, I would love to take a nap while curled up on the couch, on my humans lap, or behind a pillow. I would end the day eating dinner and falling asleep on my bed until it was time to go to bed. I forgot to mention, I LOVE food. Breakfast and dinner may be my two favorite times of the day.

What is your favorite toy?
My foster brother is only allowed to chew on hard nylabones, so thats all i get too! But i love them too! And recently we have both been allowed to play with hard rubber toys! Steve the rubber snowman is my favorite toy!

Do you know any tricks?
I can sit and lay down! I tell my humans when I want to eat or go outside by barking. I am house trained. And one time I swallowed a tennis ball, my parents didn’t think that was a trick though....

What scares you?
I can startle easily if i don’t recognize something or am in a deep sleep and get woken by a loud noise. The other day I heard my dad move in the office and started barking at him because I was asleep.

Do you like cats?
I met one cat at Dr. Johnson’s office! I liked him! I also met one at the brewery, but that cat didn’t like me, so I stayed away. While I don’t have a ton of experience with cats, my foster parents think I could be okay with them.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
My foster brother, Chip! He is the main dog that I get to hang out with every day. I had babesia for a long time, so we are still learning how to play as I didn’t get to play with him while I was undergoing treatment. I also like my grandparents' dog Bella!

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I want to be the center of attention to any humans in the room! I have serious FOMO (fear of missing out) so anytime someone moves or is in a different room, I like to follow.

How is your health?
I came to Even Chance thinking I was over my Babesia. however, after two tests I was not. I had to take a lot of pills for about 6 months, but am 100% healthy now.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with my two human foster parents, David and Emma and my foster brother Chip. Sometimes Bella spends the weekend with us. I am not the best dog at meeting other dogs. I need to follow them and see what they are doing at all times, sometimes this can be a little rude. So my foster parents think i would be best in a home with no other dog or in a home with a patient dog.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind laying in there until someone comes home to play with me! I also eat all of my meals in the crate so that I can associate it with a safe and positive place. I am silent in my crate, which my foster parents appreciate when they are trying to sleep.

Where do you sleep?
I spend my nights dreaming away in my crate. It helps me settle down and get a good night of sleep!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my foster family gives me lots of attention. I also love that they are showing me the ropes of how to live in a home and give me a safe comfortable place to be a dog!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
Before being rescued, I was part of a dog fighting operation in WI. I then was moved to an ASPCA shelter in OH while my court case played out. Then that nice lady Jessi came and rescued me and brought me back to St. Louis where I live now!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for you and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
