My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Danny. My friends here at MMR were contacted by the rescue coordinator from a shelter in Harrisonburg, Va and were asked if they could save me.  I came in as a stray, and since I was never claimed, they were worried I might run out of time.  The folks at the shelter knew I was just a baby, and a very nice boy, and they wanted to give me a chance.  Whew! I am really glad to be out of the shelter.  I am accepting applications now and interviewing potential families, so don't wait to apply for me.

I am about 6 months old, and I am believed to be a Husky/Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix.  I have the gorgeous blue eyes, the white center 'stripe' on my face and the white 'blaze' on my chest that Husky's are known for.  I get my golden color, ears and tail from the Lab side of the family.  I will be about the size of the Lab, too.....so not as large as an adult Husky.

Right now, I am your typical goofy, mouthy puppy.  I am the perfect age to adopt because I am old enough to attend basic obedience class.  I will need to attend a 'puppy class' with my new family, or have individual training with a professional, so that I will grow up to be a well mannered, loving companion.  Who wants to have a large dog who doesn't know how to behave?  I am EXTREMELY smart and learn quickly, so the time my new family invests in training me now, will pay dividends for a lifetime.  I am working hard on my house training, too.  My new family will also need to continue working with me in that area, but I am catching on quickly.

I have been tested with other dogs, and adore all of them, large and small.  However, because I am a goof ball puppy, I might be a little to much for a smaller dog, so I am looking for a family who has a similar sized dog already living in the home....one who wants a playmate and companionship.  MMR and the shelter want me to go to a home that has experience with raising larger pups, or who have experience with either Husky's and/or Labrador Retriever's.  I am fine with children, but I need children who can keep up with my energy.  I will not be adopted to a home that has children living there that are younger than 8 years old.  I might be a little too much for younger children, and I might accidentally knock them over when we play.  I will need a minimum of two good walks a day, and would be a WONDERFUL jogging buddy for my humans.

I have been completely vetted, neutered and am up to date on my vaccines.   I am heart worm negative and on a monthly preventative.  I have been give a perfect, clean bill of health.  I do not have any medical issues.  Now, all I need is a family to grow up with.  Could that be you?  If you are looking for an active, intelligent, spirited, and loving companion, then I am your guy.  If you meet the requirements to adopt me, and I am what you are looking for, please fill out an adoption application.  I can't wait to meet you!!!

My adoption fee is $350, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website under 'How you can help.' MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
