My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Talula. She is a sweet girl who is very smart, friendly and affectionate. She's very social and very well rounded. She really is a gem and we know you will love her when you meet her. As far as puppies go, she is on the calmer side, although she does run around a lot in the backyard with the the other dogs. She is jumpy when she first meets people, which isn't uncommon given her age. She is not crate trained, never was and now has free roam of the home. She use to be gated in the kitchen and family room when she was younger and even now when one is home. She sleeps in bed with her foster family at night and would love a family who will welcome them into her bed as well. She is given lots of bones so we haven't seen any destructive chewing. She hasn't had any accidents in the foster home in many, many weeks, but her new family will need to show her the ropes in her new home and let her out every few hours.

She is fantastic with the other dogs in her foster home and other dogs she has been met and been around. She takes a few minutes to warm up to new friends. She is very people oriented and loves anyone who will pet her. She is a shadow and wants to be with her people so it's best if her new home has someone who works from home, or stay at home parent. Talula has no bone, food or toy resource guarding. She may try to steal a bone from another dog so if you have another dog who is a resource guarder or may not want to share, Talula isn't the right match.

Talula was born 5-4-18. She weighed 42 pounds on 11-11-18 We are guessing she will grow to be between 50-60 pounds, but that's just a guess. We feel she may be a tall slender girl as an adult. Mom was a shepherd/husky mix but we don't know who dad was. She looks like she has some Doberman mixed in her DNA but that's just a guess. Talula was surrendered because of an accidental litter and the family wanted them to go to good homes. Part of Talula's adoption fee is to help us pay to have mom spayed, which we've already done. When you adopt Talula you are not only helping to give a homeless dog a home, but you are also helping to stop unwanted litters.

Talula is very smart who understands leave it, come, no and sit by command and hand signal. She has excellent recall and will come on a whistle. She's fantastic with other dogs and would love a doggy brother or sister in her new home or children to play with her. She's great with cats, but she still sometimes may chase them to play. We feel she would be fine in a home with dog friendly cat. Talula is not a dominant dog and doesn't need a stern hand in training or strong tone. She will cower if you raise her voice. She wouldn't do well with harsh correction and is great with positive reinforcement. She's playful, friendly, and so very happy. Talula is very affectionate and loves to give kisses.

We think she would do best in a home with children 6+ because she can be jumpy when she gets excited to see her her people or new people. It's not a hard jump, but many small children may not like a dog who is at face level jumping on them and they could get scratched. If your young children are rough and tumble and let things roll of their backs or have previous dog experience with this behavior, we would welcome a meet and greet. We feel she needs to be in a home with a physical fenced in back yard. If you do not have a physical fenced in yard, she is not the right match for your home. She loves children, men, women, everyone and would make a wonderful family companion. Since she is not crate trained and you plan to crate train, please be sure you read up on how to crate train properly because it takes time and not something done on the weekend. Also include what you plan to do during the crate training process if you should bring her home. You can't bring home a dog who isn't crate trained and just put them in a crate. There is a process and without training her properly, things could go very wrong.

Talula is not left more than a couple hours in her foster. We are looking for a family for her where someone is home during the day who really wants a companion by their side. Talula is being fostered in South Naperville which is where you would go to meet her with an approved adoption. Although we make the best guess on the breed and size of our dogs, because they come from shelters or are strays, we can never be completely certain of the genetic makeup of the dog. Breed and weight at maturity are only guesses. All we can tell you for sure is that they are 100% RESCUED!
