My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Greetings everyone, it’s Harley here! I am a 1 ½ year old, 40lb, tricolor Australian Shepherd mix, neutered, HW- and UTD on all shots and veterinary care. I’ve had a long journey from Oklahoma to my current foster home in Wells, Maine. Each person I’ve met has helped me to come a little more out of my shell.

I can be a shy, skittish guy whose default safety move is to retreat to my crate, but give me kindness and patience and I’ll be your sweet little shadow before you know it. Once I grow to trust you, I’m a gentleman on the leash, low-key in the house, and a genuine comedian at mealtime, when I dance circles to show you how happy I am to eat!

I prefer mild, soft-spoken humans who match my gentle nature. Having a more confident, social foster brother in the house sets me at ease and gives me cues on how to act and explore the world as a dog. I am cat and dog friendly. When I have met children, I have hidden from them like the bashful guy I am. My beautifully flexible energy level means I am perfectly content to cuddle with you on the couch for hours one day, and then go on a 13 mile hike in the White Mountains the next.
