My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

EBONY is a 9-year-old spayed female black lab. Ebony weighs 57 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION Ebby (formal name Ebony) has finished raising her final litter- YAY! Hard to believe she is 9. Her family surrendered her to one of our partner shelters just before she went into a very difficult labor, after she had been diagnosed as septic. She had been bred repeatedly and the last litter was too much for her- only 3 survived of the 14 and she nearly died herself. Ebby had always been an outdoor dog and had never received vet care, but she has adjusted very well to being indoors and is in remarkably great shape. She is scheduled for spay, microchip and boosters this week and will be ready for a new chapter after that. She is good with other dogs but will match barking with barking and she was very interested in the barn cat, so we are saying no cats. Although she was very gentle with children who visited the puppies, we have no history of her living with children, so she is approved for age 10 and up. Ebby does bark when strangers come to the gate, but once she meets them, she will follow them around as if she has known them forever. We are still working on manners, but this gal has so much love to share after being ignored for most of her life. Ebs is now looking for a home to call her own. This girl heals off leash, and if it's necessary to have her leashed, one finger is all that you need to use. She is very even tempered, has never shown fear or aggression in the 3+ months in her foster, and is soooo appreciative of attention. Ebby is very treat motivated, but it has been hard to tune up her manners with five other fosters; she will jump up if other dogs are present (presumably to get first dibs at attention or a treat) but if alone, will sit nicely and then melt down for belly scratches. She is in her second week of rest after heartworm treatment, for which she is also taking a steroid, which causes her to drink and piddle a lot more than normal. She will be off the steroids and stringent activity restrictions mid- November. She started on a joint supplement after her puppies were weaned, but she has displayed no signs of arthritis or other joint issues.
